The list of Chargers transactions [https://www.chargers.com/team/transactions/] is now showing that they signed the two UDFAs who were included in the team's original announcement of 19 UDFAs signed [https://www.chargers.com/news/undraf...e-agents-2020] but who didn't show up in the list of transactions: LB Romeo Finley (Miami) and TE Jared Rice (Fresno State). The transactions list gives a signing date of May 4 for both of them, although I'm almost certain they were just added to the list, which I check almost daily. The signings of the other 17 free agents were added to the transactions list on April 30, so there was some sort of delay with these two.

The roster limit will continue to be 53 for 2020, two players from the practice squad may be brought up to increase roster sizes to 55 on gameday, with those two players reverting back to the practice squad after gameday. Practice squads will also be increased in size from 10 players to 12 beginning this season.

Having precious little current input is a handicap but what the heck? What's your final 53 + 12 PS ?

well thats stupid. its a 53 man roster in the week but PS players can practice with the roster players so it doesn't matter. But on game day its a 55 man roster. which is the only day of the week that the official "roster" actually matters but only 48 players are active so the added 2 more players on the full roster to 55 are just two more players that are not active and cannot play?

            :umm:

Can someone explain the value in this ? Im not tracking the value equation here ...

                This is from ESPN

Yes. More jobs. That's another way the players benefit. The game-day active roster will increase from 46 to 48 players (although one of the extra players must be an offensive lineman, which will give teams more flexibility to have three extra linemen). Practice squads will expand from 10 players to 12 in 2020 and 2021 and to 14 starting in 2022. Practice-squad salaries also are going up -- the minimum salary is $8,000 per week in the current CBA, and it will rise to $11,500 by 2022 -- and those players will be eligible for 401(k) and tuition assistance benefits.

Two practice-squad players per week may be elevated to the team's roster, meaning game-week roster sizes could effectively increase from 53 to 55. And a player elevated from the practice squad to the 55-man roster could be sent back to the practice squad two times without having to clear waivers.

The changes will give teams more flexibility in managing their rosters and, if utilized fully, will offer more opportunity for practice-squad players to earn active-roster salaries.

So it sounds like the active roster is going from 46 to 48, and those guys don't have to be practice squad guys. But if you want to for injury reasons or whatever, you can use a practice squad guy on your 55 man roster and make him active, I guess without the official transaction of having to cut someone to add him to the active roster.

I don't understand guys having to clear waivers if sent back down to the PS twice. Why bring up your better PS players if you're going to have to eventually waive them?

I suppose this is an improvement over the previous system, but why doesn't the NFL just allow the regular roster to be 55 and be done with it?

55? In this day and age I want 58! There are just too many stupid and freak injuries out there especially lineman.

It's not yet on the Chargers' list of transactions, but Damion Square said Monday night he's been re-signed by the Chargers.

This brings the roster total to 86, with eight DTs/NTs: NT Linval Joseph, 3T Justin Jones, 3T Jerry Tillery, NT/3T Cortez Broughton, Damion Square, P.J. Johnson, T.J. Smith (R-UDFA), Breiden Fehoko (R-UDFA)

As Popper has emphasized, Square's key role may be to play DE behind Bosa.

This demanding yet vital role requires discipline and processing.

Although flawed and although not the protoype, Square and his experience + grit will be useful inside and outside.
