    Starks vs Dunlap

@UTgehlken: Chargers LT King Dunlap (hip) expected to return to practice soon, possibly today. He's needed. Pass rush all over Rivers on Wednesday.

@UTgehlken: Max Starks on Dwight Freeney: "He's just as good. Dwight is who he is. He has over 120 career sacks. It wasn't haphazardly or by accident."

Freeney: "I wish I could face these tackles every game day"

Ok. He didn't really say that

If we can run the ball, and that's a big if... they won't have to protect as often.

And, if we can throw more short and intermediate routes, which they supposedly are...that should help.

Honestly, too much handwringing over camp performance. It's like when an UDFA comes on during camp, and then is unable to make plays...this happens every year.

Certainly, the Offensive line is a concern. It's performance will be directly related to the team's success.

However, they did upgrade the line... and we're running a new offense.

I'm not going to complain and make a fuss until I see them getting beat, continually, on the field during actual games.

          But that's me.
"...of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

I'm starting to think Dunlap is the starting OLT.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

I said when they signed him that I wasn't sure Starks even made final roster cuts

@UTKevinAcee: King Dunlap, who hasn't practiced since Monday due to hip injury, is back working with first team. Good news. Max Starks struggling.

I think it was worth bringing in Starks. On paper it looks good. But Starks was already starting to slow down. He might be able to get into shape and be ready to play with the 1st team, but he might be at the end of the line. Dunlap has the potential to be a great player, but you have to wonder if he will ever be the kind of starter you want out there. At this point, I see both as stop gap guys. Next year, I think we will need a real LT, which means it will probably take our 1st pick. We might be able to develop someone and let Dunlap continue to start, but Dunlap is probably more of a solid backup then a true starter.

King Dunlap back to practice with starters

Yes, in fact, everything is relative.

According to Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego, Chargers left tackle King Dunlap is back on the practice field with the starters today, after missing two days with a hip problem.

And that is perceived as good news in Chargers camp, believe it or not.

Dunlap started 12 games for the Eagles last year, but is probably best suited as a backup. Longtime Steelers tackle Max Starks was signed this offseason, and worked with the ones in Dunlap’s absence. But he apparently hasn’t looked like a viable option to start.

That probably says more about Starks than Dunlap at the moment, which is bad news for Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.

@sdutCanepa: From what I've seen and heard from this camp, the Chargers should ask the NFL if it's OK for Philip Rivers to wear powder blue armor.
