Tom doesn't like powder blues. They simply have to go.

Reader, Hargrove, Pierece - they are going to cost some money. But its the biggest need on the defense to me - shoring up the interior of the DL.
None of them is going to fix the run D on their own. We need A DT, it's true, but LB and DB who can tackle are also just as important. Unless all 8 box defenders get better at staying in their gap, shed the block and tackling better, we still aren't going to be a very good run D. A run stuffing DT is only defending 1/8th of the line, maybe even somewhat less when you consider how much outside zone we are likely to see this year.
Pierce is likely to be the cheapest, since he is the worst pass rusher of the bunch. It also means he is more of a liability, since teams will be more willing to throw when we (effectively) only have 10 defenders on the field. Hargrove and Reader are huge and prove some pass rush. Both will be looking to get a fair amount of money in FA, probably north of $12 mill per season. Ask GB how much help having big, tough to move DT was in stopping the 49ers running game in the playoffs this year.

One week away. Anyone have any clue who will be the Chargers primary targets and at what positions?
One gets the impression they are clearing some space up cash wise. Didn't Telesco say there will no splash signings?
That pretty much precludes signing a qb or a coveted OT (Conklin), or premier corner (Jones/Harris)
dt, lb, cb? anyone of the 3 seems possible
ot, wr, rb? anyone of these 3 seem unlikely - look to the draft

Again I point to guys like M. Pierce, A. Robinson, A. Billings, D. Onyemata. Players that are outstanding run defenders that have upside as inside pass rushers. These players are looking at contract $ figures at half or less of the $ investment.
still like Shelton and thinkin' he's $5m over two years ??
and guessin' Pierce might run $11m/two years ??
overall would take the most affordable w/Danny @NT, thank you.

here's your QB for the some of you.... Jameis Winston rated tops overall outside the tackle box, and Tannehill best under pressure.... isn't that what you want ??
a QB that's mobile and doesn't turn it over ??
