Jets trade QB Sam Darnold to Panthers, New York gains multiple picks for former first-round QB

Darnold is heading to Carolina for multiple draft picks

The Sam Darnold era in New York has officially come to a close. With the NFL Draft just weeks away from kicking off, the Carolina Panthers have acquired the former first-round quarterback in a trade with the Jets, as reported by CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones. The Panthers have since confirmed the trade and noted that they are sending a 2021 sixth-round pick along with a second and fourth-round selection in 2022.

Darnold's future with the Jets was in doubt once New York slotted themselves into the No. 2 overall pick at the 2021 NFL Draft. There, they are positioned to select one of the top quarterback prospects that make up a rather deep class at the position. Our own CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Ryan Wilson has the Jets taking BYU signal-caller Zach Wilson, who has been the presumptive No. 2 pick throughout the pre-draft process. This deal that now sends Darnold to the Panthers all but confirms that the organization will be going with a quarterback at that top spot.
    Interesting that Rhule likes Sam.

Never know, Carolina did lose Curtis Samuel. Maybe they like Pitts too.

        Hmmm.
        Greg Little.
        Taylor Moton.
        I am thinking Horn.

I'd consider this equal to a 2022 #1 pick. Good deal for the Jets.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Agreed -- Pitts. They signed Morgan Fox and Hassan Reddick for the defense. That doesn't mean Edge is off the board. But good point - they do have Dan Arnold and Ian Thomas as TE but I can see a player like Pitts in that offense

Also might be looking at CB too - looking at roster - that position might be in play as well.

              F***. Slater goes #8. Darrisaw #10.

No- I don't see the Cowboys taking OT - they probably go CB.

I think Darrisaw will be there at 13 - but again, if Darrisaw goes at 10 - that probably means the Chargers get a CB at 13 - thats not bad. I would be very happy with a Horn /Little combo in R1 and R2 and signing a veteran like Valenzuela, Eric Fisher, Mitchell Schwartz, Dennis Kelly as a stop gap

Great we stuck with a Fluker type pick again.

Jerrah knows the value of an O Line. It made his whole offense great a few years ago.

These were the first two things that popped into my head too. Bummer is if they don't trade out I see Slater as a goner at 8 and I can easily see the Cowboys scooping Darrisaw at 10. IF the Panthers do not trade out of 8, then that puts our draft into the hands of the Cowboys. I believe if they go OT then we go corner and vice versa.

OHHHHHH the fun is just beginning.............

I like your optimism, but when Little hasn't been injured he's been a disappointment.
He was also one of those borderline OG/OT prospects.
Regardless, they can't depend on him.
Our quarterback is a golden god.

I liked the world better before this trade, when Darrisaw was the safe fall-back from Slater.
