“Roll out” Mahome’s pass plays weren’t as successful as we’re used to seeing. Well designed tho. Young receivers and no Kelce or else they would’ve beaten the Lions. A huge impact not having Kelce. Without him, the Chiefs receiving corp is somewhat suspect this season, so I’ve read.

Yep. Injuries happen. No excuses. Here's the story:

Lions fans outraged after Mike Tirico says win vs. Chiefs gets an ‘asterisk’

This one isn’t sitting well with Lions fans.

Following Detroit’s 21-20 upset of the Chiefs in the NFL season opener on Thursday night, NBC commentator Mike Tirico said the win shouldn’t be taken at face value — prompting widespread outrage.

“This has an asterisk because of no Chris Jones and no Travis Kelce,” Tirico said on the broadcast as the Chiefs and Lions players shook hands on the field.

Kansas City’s star tight end Kelce missed the game with a bone bruise on his knee and Jones, a stud defensive tackle, is in the midst of a holdout over a contract dispute.

For Lions fans, supporters of a team that is finally on the rise again, and NFL supporters alike, Tirico’s comments sparked a wave of anger.

“No offense to Mike Tirico, but this is a ridiculous thing to say after a team wins,” Dov Kleiman tweeted.

“We have teams with 10 guys on IR every year in the NFL (in later weeks of a season), you never hear someone try to take a win away by saying ‘Asterisks’ — guys didn’t play.”

“Mike Tirico can take his ‘asterisk’ and shove it. The Lions earned this win regardless of who was on the field or not,” another fan wrote.

Another group of fans pointed out that the Lions’ win could play a role in playoff consideration, which looks like a legitimate goal on the horizon for a Detroit team that hasn’t made the postseason since 2017.

“Terrible take from @miketirico — an asterisk win? Won’t be an asterisk if that win is the difference between playoffs and not. Injuries happen. By this comment, every game after week 12 should be an asterisk win,” one fan said.

The Lions were 9-8 last season with the NFL’s fifth-ranked offense and, based on Thursday night, look like a legitimate threat for the NFC North crown this season.

Renaming the Washington Redskins had to happen. How come the Atlanta Braves still? Thank the Cleavland Indians for that goofy laughing, buck toothed Native American logo they’ve kept forever.

The Washington Commanders. Not bad, George Washington WAS the commander of our young nation.

A Native American tribe wants the Redskins logo back. They don’t see it as offensive.

Murray hopefully has a light go on or he wont be back either.
I agree with all of that

That’ll be one helluva transformation, lol.

I’m getting a lot more excited about this offense, not necessarily the defense.

I’ve always felt that Redskins was a very different problem of names than Braves or Indians. It just rubs me as a derogatory slur. I could be wrong and not understand the origin, I understand the actual mascot image was a famous Native American, or something.

if they hypothetically played in an Asian city and were named by white owners as the YellowSkins, would it generate a different discussion. Thats just how it hits me, I don’t begrudge those that think differently.

Brave sounds good. Indian sounds neutral, although Indians live in India - don’t want to go down that rabbit hole

Every tribe I know found it offensive. I used to work with tribes on tribal rights issues. I don't mind the Chiefs or Braves, but R------s was offensive, and the owner who gave the team that name was the most racist owner in the NFL. He refused to sign any black players into the 1960s, and he only did so under threat of being evicted from RFK stadium. I'm glad the name is gone.

Cooper Kupp to start the season on IR over lingering hamstring issues. I read there might some sort of nerve issue? Plus the move helps the Rams tank so they can get closer to drafting Caleb Williams.

Well they haven't had any big injuries yet, though Henley and Rumph are out this week with hamstring issues.
