I realize his bottom line is money, and we're not in position to offer him what he wants.
BUT.
We might be in unique position to steal him if
1. He grows especially bitter towards KC and becomes motivated to play them twice a year.
2. If we demonstrate this season that we are and will be the division leaders for years to come.
Longshot but a guy can dream.
Last season I thought he was the best IDL player in the league. Better than Donald and that not chicken feed there.
Put yourself in Ek's shoes. If you worked as hard as he does to be the strongest PFP player in the league and lead the league in scoring in consecutive years and were in the top five in total yards gained the past two seasons, would you not believe you are worth what McCaffrey is making? And while Ek is vocal about it he is showing up on time to training camp, unlike Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs.
I can see Eckler's point if you just look at the stats, but he didn't do for us what McCaffery did for the 49rs.
I'll play devil's advocate - put yourself in ownership's shoes; McCaffery missed a LOT of games. His contract is one of the reasons that the league is gun shy on RB's. Is McCaffery going to give the money back for all the games he missed?
I didn't realize Isaac Rochell was still playing, but apparently he is, and he's signing with the Raiders.
Good for him . . . . . . . . . . . . I'll always root for the guys that just keep on trying. Even at the vet minimum the money's pretty darn good . . . . . . by normal people standards

nobody cares about PFP disclaimers except the littlest guy. Nobody cares about how hard he works either.
If I was in Ekeler's shoes, I'd suddenly be rich for the rest of my life and I wouldn't be worrying about if I can keep working until I am seventy-fucking-two years of age so I can accumulate enough life savings to keep my wife in a residence slightly above a goddamn trailer park after I'm gone. Sorry, was Ekeler looking for sympathy from me?
Eke is showing up for camp because he's already under signed contract. He can be fined each day he misses. Barkley and Jacobs are not, they can wait without fines, which it sounds like what they currently plan to do. Question will be do they show up for Week 1 to get pay for all 17 games, or wait till the last week they can stroll in and still accrue the season? At >$500k per game, i'd show up cuz its really in the compounding of games that you can get rich. Their tags will pay them ~$10M each.
Interesting list below. I included but would ignore the "total cash" as it includes an initial signing bonus (e.g. Bijan). Left side is AAV. Not sure I'd take Ekeler over ANY of the backs above him. I'd ditch him for Bijan if I could too.
Did I mention that I think I may be in love with Bijan. I know, its weird because I'm not gay (not that there's anything wrong with that!) but the heart wants what the heart wants.
Denver Broncos defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike has been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games during the 2022 season, the league announced Monday. Here’s what you need to know:
Uwazurike will be eligible to petition for reinstatement no earlier than July 24, 2024.
The Broncos drafted Uwazurike with the 116th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Uwazurike recorded 17 tackles during the 2022 season.
The Athletic’s instant analysis: What the Broncos are saying
The team put out a statement Monday in the wake of Uwazurike’s suspension: “We were informed by the NFL today that Eyioma Uwazurike has been suspended by the league indefinitely for violating its gambling policy. Our organization fully cooperated with this investigation and takes matters pertaining to the integrity of the game very seriously.

“The Denver Broncos will continue to provide all members of our organization with the necessary education, resources and support to ensure compliance with the NFL’s Gambling Policy.”
The league says Uwazurike’s bets were made during the 2022 season. During OTAs in June, new Broncos coach Sean Payton said the team was going to great lengths to educate players, coaches and staff members about the league’s policy related to gambling.
“Obviously, when policies change, it’s our job to educate,” he said. (Broncos vice president of football operations and compliance] Mark Thewes was awesome. We’re professional teachers. The packet we received (from the NFL), we looked at, studied closely and then we presented it in our own PowerPoint. I probably had 20 minutes on it to really make sure everyone has it. If you’re a teacher and half your class get a D, you better look at yourself. It’s not the policy, but it’s the implementation, the understanding and the educating of the policy. … I think we’re all on the same page.” — KosmiderWhat this means for Denver’s defense
Uwazurike was set to compete for a starting spot on Denver’s defensive front after seeing increased snaps down the stretch of his rookie season. At 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, the fourth-round pick in 2022 out of Iowa State, was a massive presence on the interior who was going to be a rotational piece on the defensive line at the very least.
The Broncos already appeared relatively thin on the defensive line, and Uwazurike’s suspension makes it likely Denver will add a veteran defensive lineman near the start of training camp. This also presents a big opportunity for another member of Denver’s 2022 draft class, sixth-round pick Matt Henningsen, to step into a larger role. — KosmiderBackstory
NFL gambling policy prohibits team staff, league staff and players from placing bets on any sport at any league facility, including stadiums that house sportsbooks, or while traveling with their teams. While NFL players cannot bet on NFL games, they can bet on other leagues so long as they are not doing so from an NFL facility.

So - I see the Nyheim Hines just blew out his knee in a skidoo accident. I suppose he will forgo his salary for the year then? Seeing as how he won't be contributing to the teams efforts????? That would be fair, right?

Nope. A deal’s a deal. a man (or woman) has gotta keep his word, same with an organization. When you sign your name, you have made a solemn pledge.
Hey - I got a new theory of this kerfuffle, let me test it out. Eke is wicked smart, right? We all agree? Ok - here’s the theory:
Ekeler developed an elaborate briar rabbit trap to sucker every other elite RB to get pissed, defiant, rebellious, and angry in order to then get them to all hold out and not play. That was his zoom call - specifically to use groupthink peer pressure on the reluctant few not yet fully on board. All the while during the call he’s saying “fuck yeah bros, i am sooooo with you, 110%. I’m gonna organize your, er i mean our march to justice, i’m going to take you all the way. Oh .. but … you know, i gotta play. But Not because I want to, because it’s whats best for you = you the rebels, fighting for justice that only you deserve! you gotta hold out, you gotta stand strong, you gotta stick it to the man!”
he’ll be the only elite RB that plays in 2023, guaranteeing the Chargers a SB VICTORY!
