Yeah . . . . no.

We need (at least) another solid vet safety, maybe 2 (depending on Woods progression). I'm hopeful that he's tired of getting embarrassed and gets his act together - he could be the X factor in the defensive backfield.

he maxes out his natural ability and opportunities
he wasn't drafted by this coaching regime and still beats out everyone they try to replace him with
hes consistent and makes timely plays when we actually need them.
A good defensive coach should be able to start Gilman and run a competent defense without Mr. LostTheGreenDot

I agree. I've got a lot of respect for Gilman. He's obviously worked his ass off an has produced better than guys with more natural ability. There's a lot to be said for grit, smarts and instinct. He's still a B level safety though - he needs to be paired with an A level safety (Woods ain't it - yet). I would love having the luxury of having Alohi coming off the bench . . . . .

Too limited physically. Nice depth/backup but really nothing special and just because the team has not developed someone better isn't a reason to settle.

too limited physically for what? Do we need 2 derwin james' to run Staleys scheme?
I feel like we're getting scammed by Staley making "stone soup".

I'm definitely not wanting to settle on Alohi, I just don't want to continue investing premium resources on S when we're already paying James his salary.
I just think Alohi isn't as bad an option as some think and our defensive genius HC should be able to make do with a derwin james and his pick in round 3 last draft.
