Each week leading up to the final cuts on Aug. 30, U-T Chargers beat writer Michael Gehlken and columnist Kevin Acee will update their predictions for who makes the 53-man roster. In a training camp that is already proving highly competitive, there will almost certainly be many changes along the way. Nonetheless, here is the first crack by Gehlken and Acee.

I agree. Way too early, I imagine they were too lazy to write a real column.

Phillips might be kept around for Jumbo, but he's overrated as a blocker.

the majority of it is probably right for now, but we haven't had any injuries to shake things up yet. I want to see a game or 2, but don't like Gilchrist counted as a S and didn't really notice anything special about Law yesterday- but I focused mostly on the offense in front of me. Sorenson is very likely being groomed as Rivers' successor and is not going to be exposed to poaching from PS. He looks very poised and makes all the throws, so I agree with keeping 3 QBs. I do think PS and injury determine what happens at OLB, WR, CB and think its possible Law and Inman are destined for PS unless injury keeps them on the 53 man to replace Freeney/JJ or Floyd/VBrown/TuTu respectively.

I think we'll see Gilchrist more as a S/NCB hybrid in different personnell groups. He's a FA next year, but kids like Addae, Darby and the other new kid need to push him out the door by the end of the season. Same for Wright at the CB situation where we are loaded now.

Don't know how Scafe or Geathers make it over Guy. Don't see the team carrying four tight ends either. Johnson is a better blocker and more versatile than Phillips. I agree, use that extra spot on another olineman. I also think both the CFL guys make it. Tutu is strictly a special teamer. If Inman can show something on special teams tutu is gone.
