krasovic report:
Three defensive ends were sidelined. Corey Liuget (foot) and Lawrence Guy (shoulder) didn’t practice, while Damik Scafe left for an undisclosed reason.
• Antonio Gates made a slick catch down the seam – slowing, turning and then plucking the Philip Rivers pass as Darrell Stuckey closed.
• In 1-on-1 pass-rush drills, Reggie Walker whipped running backs Donald Brown and Branden Oliver; John Phillips knocked Jerry Attaochu to the ground; and Eric Weddle defeated Ryan Mathews twice. Ladarius Green, much improved from his rookie camp of ’12, fought off Thomas Keiser and Cordarro Law, but Dwight Freeney whirled past him.
• Rookie Chris Watt was back with the first team.
• In 1-on-1s, Manti Te’o was quicker with his hands, better at changing direction than last summer. He beat Danny Woodhead.
• Chargers non-uniform personnel stood in front of the play clock. This puzzled fans and players alike, plus several assistant coaches. Yelling at the obstructionists from behind center, Philip Rivers told them he couldn’t see the clock. But Mike McCoy wanted them there. Why? “Certain reasons for coaching purposes,” McCoy said.
Playcaller Frank Reich has said quick thinking and adjusting on the fly are behaviors the Chargers value highly.
• Former Chargers defensive end Burt Grossman, drafted 8th overall in 1989, watched practice. “This is the same view from when I played – from the sidelines,” he quipped.
Grossman, 47, said of the team: “I’m a big Philip Rivers fan, so I think they’re going to be good every year as long as they have him. If they stay healthy, I assume they’ll be good. But I say that every year. They always have that thing, where they back themselves so far against the wall and then tease everybody, and then they get out of it. I’d like to see them get out to a good start and see that through, instead of the mathematical stuff they go through every year to get to the playoffs.”
Grossman woroks as program director for at-risk youth. Also, he coaches Hoover High’s defensive line.

Chargers backup D-line was entirely rookies today due to injuries: http://utsd.us/1sPdY4zNow, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
