    Freeney piece from Espn

The Seahawks played pass-rushers in waves. Seattle's top edge rushers, Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, played an average of 55 percent of the team's snaps during the 2013 regular season. In his first three games for San Diego before suffering a quad injury, Freeney played 74 percent of the defensive snaps.

So the Chargers could benefit from limiting Freeney's snaps to make him more productive.

"The more depth you have, the better pass rush you can create as a team," Freeney said. "The more people that you have that can do what you can do, that keeps you from being out there so that you're not wearing yourself out. I think that's the big thing. From a hockey perspective, you keeping changing those lines and keeping rotating guys to keep those lines fresh."

That last quote is key. We just have to improve the talent level on the D line.

Good to hear that Freeney recovered and is rehabbing. He also still seems to have that desire to play which is essential to be able to get all the way back.

That is exactly what I watched the Auburn Tigers do last year and it was key to thier success. That said. It is also the reason why I am not sold on Dee Ford. For someone who should have benefitted from the depth and rotation, he was not consistent enough for me to believe that he will be an impact player at the next level.

I really hope that Freeney can put together a solid year like the one Abraham did for Arizona. Him and Ingram, for 16 games, could make a huge difference in our pass D.

This is still a good year to add someone if we can. I think it takes time to develop pass rushers, and getting a guy on the roster now, so he can start to develop pass rush moves (and while we have Freeney to help with that) will only help us down the road.

Their top guys played 55% of the snaps. So why have the rare all around OLBs when you can go with specialists?
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Generally, the top guys are better pass rushers.

But I agree with you, if for no other reason then we aren't going to get one of the top guys. And if people notice, guys like Bennett and Avril were not top picks either. They were guys who were developed (although neither by Seattle). And it would open us up to a whole lot more guys (43 DE types).
