Too bad Hilton didn't remain owner, but then again, we may have never seen "Air Coryell" on the Chargers.

Not much new there for me, but a few nice snippets that I hadn't heard before. Always enjoy reading about the early years in the AFL.

There's a book out for a while now, Going Long. Such a great anecdotal read about the 10 year history of the AFL. I've actually given out about a half dozen copies as Xmas gifts over the past few years. Mostly told through interviews with just about every type of Player, Coach, Equipt guy, Owner, etc.
One of my favorite books. I cant recommend it highly enough.

          Good stuff.

I honestly didn't know why Hilton sold until now.

Gotta say, three owners in the entire history isn't bad; despite the
dysfunction we've seen at the management level at different times,
that's stability-despite all the Hell I've raised over the Spanos' at times,
          they've kept me on-board.

I always thought we were named the Chargers because Hilton Hotels were the first famous resort to start accepting credit cards.

I guess that was a legend, and I prefer the real version.

Maybe we both heard it from Ron Burgundy.

I have read that book too. It is very interesting on how they battled against the NFL to get players. Pretty much they had to be there at the players bowl game to try and sign them. I also remember reading that days before the chargers afl championship game against the patriots, that the patriots were needing a place to practice and the chargers had them practice at the navy yard. There was speculation that players and coaches were dressed up as naval officers watching their practices.
