Same for SW Colorado (Durango? A buddy of mine wants to move there...say hi to him for me). It might be dry, and sunny...but I can't imagine doing much outdoors when it's below zero. Or even below 20. Or 30.
Durango, CO is a cool place. I have friends that vacation there once a year.

As for the cold temps you get used to them fast. My wife and I both being in CA our whole lives she complained the first year. But now she sometimes doesn't wear a jacket unless its below 20 and its not even considered cold unless its close to single digits. Kids even go to school in shorts in those temps. I actually like it when we get a good stretch of cold because I can take the kids sledding without having to drive into the mountains. Most of the time it snows and then melts away in a day or 2.

Taxes? Sure Cali has lots of taxes and the cost of living is high. Not a deal breaker in my book.
Traffic? Thats weak. We have traffic issues here because the taxes aren't used (or high enough) to maintain and improve the old outdated roads. Don't get me started about the idiot farmers that will drive their John Deere down the road during rush hour.
Politics? Really? I thought I was consevative when I left Cali. Then I came here. This place is the buckle on the bible belt. The hypocrisy is amazing. 3 Governors have been sent to prison since I moved here and 2 of those were also ordained ministers! Don't talk to me about corrupt politics at the state and local level.
Crime and family safety? There may not be as many capital crimes in this region but its no Utopia like you describe Denver. Nobody here lets their kids walk to school. We have buses. There aren't enough sidewalks on these old roads and the city is just too spread out for kids to walk. I myself have been a victim of the crime here. Had the wheels and tires stolen off my daughter car when it was in my driveway! I lock my vehicles and home at all times.
Public Transportation? When I first got here there was ZERO public transportation of any kind. Since then, there is what I would call a shuttle service in the main city only. I believe it consists of about 3 or 4 mini buses that make the same loops during business hours only. Nothing after hours but cabs
Well, who in their right mind would move to Alabama? My choices were Vancouver, LA(or all over Socal), NY, Denver and surprisingly Minneapolis. And unlike CA schools aren't going away they are being built, thanks to people that like to get high.

Are you using that as a basis for promoting raising children in Denver? If anything, having weed readily accessible is a massive deterrent in my eyes. High Schools are going to be one big hot box.

I'm assuming weed is about as readily available as pharmaceuticals, alcohol, tobacco, and porn is in every other state. Are high schools in Cali a big drunken orgy among people with foul-smelling clothes and Midol addictions?

I smoked weed all the way through high school and I'm fairly certain I knew more than most of the sober students.
Of course, I'm a dumbass now. But I think it has more to do with my disdain for intelligence than it does for my love of herb.

Sorry for getting way off topic.

But marijuana legalization is my political goal numero uno. And bringing San Diego back to the way it used to be when it actually was a paradise for us low-class people, that's my political goal numerus II.

I guess my goals are just pipe dreams.

          Fuck the Raiders.
          Save the Chargers.

Forgive me if I'm wrong about that.
Partially wrong. I left because the housing in Cali dropped so drastically. There was no reason to stay and pay so much for a home in a neighborhood with gang problems, home invasions and cops showing up at my house with shotguns in hand to see if a suspect had broken in. And it wasn't a bad neighborhood when I moved in.

I always have and always will. Mostly because I know better, but it still shocks me to this day the number of kids that do walk distances at very young ages. Something I didn't know still existed.

Ive got no problem with that. I take no offense to anything anyone says. Even when we got into it I was just trying to push your buttons, but you wised up too soon. Same with Aces and Powerslave.

I love SD, Im there once per year. Now that my grandparents have passed my dad has moved from Mission Valley to Fallbrook so its different visiting now. But it was also sad to see my grandparents place in Chula Vista change from a very family friendly place. With kids all over to a place that became very unsafe for them to live. And left my grandma a paranoid mess that feared leaving the house.

It might become the only drug that High School students can get their hands on.

Just wait till alcohol is legal. Game over.

San Diego has great weather but that's about it. California is just fucked up, San Diego is a mess and there are many reasons to stay away and why i left many years ago. Its nice to visit but i really wouldnt want to live in CA again and endure the bullshit that has come to pass from years of being run poorly by douche bags like Arnold and Davis.

Very true. Reminds me of a time, back on Long Island, when we had an unusual run of sub-zero days (maybe all of a week). It was rough. Then the temperature rose into the mid-to-upper 20s and we were walking around without jackets on. LOL! But I was 25 or so back then; my skin has gotten very thin in the last 36 years. I'm the type of guy who likes to walk around in shorts and a t-shirt...all year. Maybe a light jacket. Maybe.

And don't even talk to me about snow...except in the mountains above 6000 feet.

maybe when I'm as old as you I'll want to move to Florida as well. Although I'd prefer Spain.

I can't wait for all the talk about leaving the USA because of all the assholes in DC fucking things up. Hey, anybody want to buy a congressman?
