Manti Te'o, LB Notre Dame

Does anyone know exactly what Te'o's injury is? I haven't read anything setting forth the diagnosis or the prognosis.

That is the million dollar question. Like Woodhead earlier, they just don't seem like they will be very forthcoming with information.

He's out of the boot (again), but still not practicing. If he's not on the field by tomorrow, he's likely going to be inactive.

It's hard to fathom he'll play in week one. If he's still not practicing, it seems like he is probably weeks away from being ready to play.

What was supposed to be a minor obstacle has put Manti Te’o’s chances of being ready for the season opener in major jeopardy.

Te’o was not practicing Monday. He was hurt Aug. 8 in the preseason opener. When Te’o appeared in a walking boot Aug. 10 San Diego coach Mike McCoy said he’d be in it for a week. Yet, it has now been more than three weeks.

Theoretically, Te’o can practice Wednesday and be ready to play against Houston in the season opener Sept. 9. But right now it appears Bront Bird will be in Te’o’s inside linebacker spot.

This injury hurts Te’o and the Chargers. The team was counting on him. For a rookie to play just a couple of series in the preseason and to miss three weeks of practice, it will certainly thwart his progress. Te’o, a second-round pick, can catch up, but it may take several weeks.

However, the Chargers did get some good injury news Monday as they began to prepare for Houston in earnest.

Star defensive end Corey Liuget returned to practice after being out with a shoulder injury. Receiver Eddie Royal is also back after being out with a bruised lung and concussion.

Our D line are going to need to be superstars to make up for having to use Bird in run support. Dude can't shed a block to save his life. He hasn't even been able to fill the hole effectively all preseason either.

I actually thought Gachkar played the best of any of the ILB's this preseason. His speed has played up.

Ugh! I don't like Bird or Gachkar being on the field for anything other than special teams. That's what they are, nothing else.

And the matchup is against the Texans with Foster in the running game and Schaub throwing the ball in the passing game. Not good. Maybe 31-13 Texans.
