    Pagano as Raiders DC

    Is it all bad?

If he's allowed to coach the defense, rather than be Del Rio's sock puppet, what would you guys say are some positives and negatives about his approach?

I know he's not highly regarded amongst Bolt fans. But there must be some positives to having him take over besides being rid of Ken Norton.

I think he's a very good coach, he just ran his course here, and they needed a fresh approach. He has a reputation of being creative with his front 7, but he won't help much with your secondary.

Decent coach, but not exceptional. Players seem to like playing for him, but lack of in-game adjustments hurt.

He ran a very complicated scheme, that had a lot for players to learn. So when injuries depleted the roster it made execution difficult. Plus there were long stretches when the D just had difficulty lining up correctly, let alone being assignment sound.

IT will be an interesting test for Pagano. He cannot run the D he used in SD, just because they don't have time to install it. He will be playing basically the same scheme as us (variation of Seahawks D). So if they try to add players, Seattle, Atlanta, SF, Jags run a very similar scheme, their players can pick things up more quickly. A few other teams like Washington run very similar schemes but use different terminology.

Fundamentally, Oakland has done little to replace talent loss via FA in on D the last few years. They have a few key pieces, but outside of Kalil Mack, they really don't have any special players. They need to add some help on D, and that isn't going to happen this time of year. They are going to have to win on O.

Never cared much for him. I'll give credit where credit is due, his halftime adjustments were usually pretty good. Unfortunately early in games his defenses looked clueless.

There is not much a DC can do at this stage. He is stuck with what he has got.
