If Mathews wasn't arrested then I don't care in the slightest about this incident. All that matters is how he performs on the field, and if he won't be disciplined by the NFL or the Chargers from this then it is meaningless IMO. He is still a young dude and you can't blame him for partying during the offseason but he better stay healthy and perform at a high level this year or he is done...

Officer Ed Zwibel said Mathews was not arrested or even stopped by police.

“Ryan Mathews was never alleged to have struck anybody in this incident. He is not a suspect in anything at this time.” Zwibel said.

One man suffered an injured lip during the fight and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officers stopped two people leaving the area — neither of whom was Mathews, Zwibel said.

“He’s not involved in the battery case at all,” Zwibel said.

Police arrested one person for possession of a controlled substance, but the arrest was not related to the fight, Zwibel said.

Zwibel could not confirm whether Mathews was present at the fight.

Mathews said he wasn’t.

The 25-year-old said he awoke Monday morning, at home, to phone calls and text messages he’d been arrested.

“It’s crazy right now,” he said in a phone interview.

While Mathews acknowledged he was in downtown Sunday with some friends, he vehemently denied any role in a fight.

“I don’t know how my name got twisted in all this (stuff),” Mathews said. “I don’t know why my name is even being brought up. ... I didn’t hit anybody. I wasn’t arrested. ... I didn’t see a fight. I didn’t see anything.”

Mistaken identity. It happens. Nothing to hold against Matthews. Years ago, my buddy was detained on our way back from Africa simply because, as the customs officer put it, "he had a common name". We almost missed our connecting flight because of it.

I did respond...but deleted my post after I read OIP's post at 7:55 AM. In the interest of full disclosure, all I said was that Mattew's 'feel good' story seemed to be turning sour. And I thought that was sad. But this appears to be a non-incident now. So this thread is becoming a waste of bandwidth.

his ex-team mates were quoted saying he was he best FB when they lost him. That doesn't count? Most outside observers had him rated the top FA FB available as well. He just got all NOrved up like Royal and meacham. We just need to get the NOrv stink off them and they will return to greatness

No need to delete posts, unless you feel that someone will hold you accountable for it. It was a breaking story, so no one should expect total accuracy in the couple of hours or so.
