Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had another typical game. He made some "wow" throws that few quarterbacks could make, and he also had his usual boneheaded play: an interception in the end zone. Rivers has had consistency issues in the last few seasons, but he's still a quarterback plenty of other teams would like to have.

Overall, this isn't a talented club. The offensive line isn't good enough to take over games, and the defense lacks playmakers not named Joey Bosa or Melvin Ingram. The passing game is always going to be dangerous, but there isn't balance on offense.

Bosa and Ingram were everywhere against the Giants, and that's a big reason why L.A. pulled out a win. Of course, injuries to New York's receivers also gave the Chargers an advantage.

Even with the aforementioned Giants injuries, this was still an impressive win. Traveling across the country and playing at 10 a.m. local time is never easy for a West Coast team. The victory gets L.A. out of the winless club.-----

The Chargers finally found a way not to lose. All it took was four injuries to the Giants' receivers, including Odell Beckham! Still, the Chargers are barely alive, even though they're on life support. With games coming up against the Raiders (Derek Carr could be back), Broncos and Patriots in three consecutive weeks, they could be officially out of playoff contention very quickly. Hopefully a high draft pick will allow them to finally upgrade their offensive line.

Finally. Prior to Sunday, the Chargers had been in every game this season, but were dealt a rotten hand each time. In New York, Lady Luck finally came to the side of Philip Rivers and Co. Rivers wasn't forced to be perfect to win, which must loosen a bit of the stranglehold that pressure has placed on the organizational front man. The veteran QB missed on over half his throws (he also chucked three touchdowns). The Giants lost their top three wide receivers during the game, including Odell Beckham Jr. Most relevant: Everyone contributed to the win. Joey Bosa got to Eli Manning twice. Melvin Ingram, too. Melvin Gordon rushed for 100 yards and caught two of Rivers' scoring tosses. Hunter Henry grabbed a 25-yard scoring heave. Keenan Allen got hot in the second half after getting shut out in the first. Darius Philon posted five tackles and a sack. Everybody.

They found a way to pull out a tight one against the Giants, but now face a big division road game against the Raiders. It's a must-have for the Chargers.

Three road games at home prepared them well for a road game on the road.

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News 28 (LW 29)

Melvin Gordon made sure Philip Rivers got on the board with a victory. The Chargers have gone from the best winless team to the best one-win team.

The Chargers finally got a win. Now, with a win this weekend at Oakland, they would climb out of the AFC West cellar.

In midst of five-game stretch that includes four dates away from dispiriting StubHub Center, Bolts might just get back into wild-card race.

3.9 percent chance of making the playoffs. This past Sunday against the Giants, the Chargers ended a nine-game losing streak stretching back to last season. That's the good news. The bad news is that the Chargers have only a 3.8 percent chance of making the playoffs, and with a three-game stretch against the Raiders, Broncos and Patriots coming up, that might have been their high point of the 2017 season.

The Chargers still played like they have no clue what they're doing, but more good plays happened this time around. On top of 5 total sacks (Ingram and Bosa nabbed 2 each), timely turnovers, solid play by Rivers and stellar play by Gordon, the Chargers managed to come away with the W against a reeling NY Giants squad. Next up, the Chargers play their first of two away contests against the Raiders.

The only significant change in the "Ratings" was Sagarin, going up 4. Projected Draft Pick was 4 or 5, based on a projected record of 5-9.

Here's a link to the TV audience ratings too... unless these kinds of ratings should have their own thread.
