We should be the first team to bring in Colin Kaepernick

We are not who we thought we were, that is obvious after today. If Rivers continues playing like he has there is no one even close to being considered a starter behind him and that is why the Chargers are a joke. I am not saying bring in Kaepernick to replace Rivers but at least to kick the tires. It would send a message to PR to get his head out of his ass. It would tell the team that nobody is safe. More than anything it would provide some depth which is something the Chargers don't give a shit about.

If the season goes to shit then he gets a chance to play and show if there is anything worth keeping. Rivers isn't guaranteed to make it through all sixteen healthy anyway. Why does New England groom QB's but the Chargers feel it is not important.

Because as long as Rivers has someone who he can be good friends with as the backup QB, the FO doesn't care how bad they are.

Absolutely not! Even overlooking the distraction he brings, he is an awful QB. He had a couple of years of success until teams learned to defend the read option but he absolutely sucks as a pocket QB and you have to be able to do that in the league.

Agreed. Without Harbaugh to keep him in-line, he's trash. Even then, you're correct about teams adjusting to defend him.

Vick was a terrible pocket QB too. Kap is a better QB than what we have behind Rivers, just the truth. Playing behind Rivers would not hurt him.

What makes you think Kapernick can do anything in our offense? He runs for his life better, but he is a terrible passer, and he makes more negative plays than positive if you count all the sacks he causes by holding the ball too long.

For Kapernick to be effective, you have to switch over to a run first, zone read type of system. Anything about that sound remotely like something we could pull off?

And he can't be a backup for us. He cannot run the base offense. He needs to continue his development as a pocket guy, but as a backup he gets almost no reps in practice. Any reps we do give a QB would be for Jones. So we would get all of the negative attention, especially given Trumps comments this weekend, and none of the benefits from having a QB who could actually help on the field. If I was going to bring in Kapernick, bring him in to start, not to be a freak show on the sidelines.

NO! They need to draft a QB next offseason.

In an open QB competition, I'm not convinced Kellen Clemens could beat out Roger or Samuel, and one of those guys has been dead for a hundred years.

Kap is a lot better than Clemens. He is better than the Jets QBs and some other starting QBs IMO. Kap was healing from surgeries last year, then they played him when he was healthy enough to play.

This team has no use for Kaep. Please, no.

Kapernick can't throw the ball downfield. The stats everyone shows from last year are with him dinking and dunking. But teams clamped down on it, and he didn't accomplish anything, even though his stats look mildly harmless, the fact that his completion percentage is not very good. He takes a ton of sacks from holding the ball too long, and those don't show in his passing numbers, but they are a result of his poor decision making, which is also a major part of his problems.

If a team wanted to put in a run first, offense, and design what they do around him, with a strong zone read compliment, then he can be decent. But the distractions would be incredible, and he doesn't add anything as a player unless we scrap what little on offense has gone right.
