1. Go best player available and you can't go wrong rounds 1-3
2. Don't draft anybody named Davis
3. Don't draft on potential with 1st pick (English) Picks 1-2 need to be starter, pick 3 a key contributor
4. Don't draft 4th and 5th rounders (Jonas Mouton, Jacob Hester) in the 2nd and 3rd round
5. Don't draft rookie FA with the 6th & 7th picks
6. Don't draft an Alabama CB high in the draft these guys are benefiting from an awesome college front 7 that make them look good note below

Buster Davis is an example of a bust. Someone who never did anything. Ever. We got zero production out of him. Larry English is a bust. Mathews probably isn't but in light of the trade, he's been woefully unproductive.

Merriman was a terrible pick for us, the worst of AJ's career here and the most damaging to this team because we counted on him to come back from his injury in 2007 when we were still in the window with our core talent. The guy was nothing once he had to go off the roids (yeah, he managed a half a season after his suspension but he was still benefiting from his prior use of them during that time). He managed to fool us into thinking he was salvageable so we kept counting on him (and the drafting of English was a hedge against that bet). and Buffalo into thinking the same but the guy was nothing when he could rely on meds.

Totally asinine.

I get that everyone felt cheated as things broke down, but there's a failure to recognize what was accomplished (even under tainted circumstances-- do we think he's the only cheater on this team or in the league?!?!) prior to the downfall. You know what else was a hedge against that bet? Jyles Tucker. Jyles Tucker and Larry English. That's how we chose to address the issue. That's why our hawaiian shirts aren't hanging in a closet in Sd anymore....among other things. My god, your mancrush makes me queasy.
