Dolphins placed DT Vaughn Martin on injured reserve, ending his season.
The move clears a roster spot for Marvin Austin. Martin's "injury" isn't immediately apparent. Thrust into action by injuries along the Dolphins' defensive line, Martin struggled in 25 snaps against the Falcons on Sunday. It's an admission of failure from GM Jeff Ireland, who handed Martin a two-year, $4 million contract that included $750,000 guaranteed in March. It's not a huge sum of wasted money in and of itself, but dead dollars add up fast in the NFL.

I think lots of teams use IR for things other than injury. But its pretty funny that they went the "he sucks" route.

Teams definitely use the IR spot for different things (stash young players, etc.), in this case its to open up a roster spot because Martin is just not good at football.

I was on board for signing Barnes, but I also wanted Jammer, Williams and - gulp! - Martin. Barnes was the only one who MIGHT have made sense in what APPEARS to be this organization's direction (i.e. rebuilding, getting younger, getting rid of nincompoops).

I wanted Vasquez, Barnes, Franklin and Jammer. I still think they could've helped this team. Jammer would certainly be a better option than Patrick or Crez. But I can understand wanting to go younger and see what the kids can do. I also would've prefered Phillips with his contract over Freeney's contract.

Vasquez...yes...but there was the salary to consider. However, we've discussed that quite enough. It's been nice NOT hearing about Future HOFer Vasquez for the past few weeks.
