I'm told Russell Okung has agreed to go the #Chargers on a 4-year deal for $53M. Guaranteed $25M

The former Super Bowl champion has seen his fair share of issues since his 2012 Pro Bowl season — Okung just played all 16 games in a season for the first time in his NFL career this past season — but he’s still a fairly reliable player, even at age 29. The tackle has only surrendered more than four sacks one time in a season and has been a willing mauler in the run game. Plus, his durability in 2016 should be a huge sigh of relief for those who were worried about Okung’s injury-plagued career.

Last year, Okung the agent screwed over Okung the player, negotiating his own contract which ultimately turned into a one-year bargain deal for the Broncos when Denver declined his option earlier this offseason. Okung still got his money, but he could’ve made a lot more.

Okung, who still does not have an agent, negotiated his own contract. He will be tasked with protecting Philip Rivers as the team plays its first season in Los Angeles.

Ian Rapoport‏ is reporting that $13.25M is guaranteed, not $25 million which would make me feel better.

It appears it may be a 2 year/ 26 million dollar deal at worst.

A new left tackle. And now, King Dunlap awaits phone call. Veteran due $5.25M salary, $1.5M in roster bonuses.

Certainly seems like a lot. I need to see how it breaks down over the first 2 years. If its 15M or less over the first 2 years and his guaranteed money is off the books in year 3 its nothing more than a huge contract on paper. Im hoping its backloaded.

The biggest head scratcher part of the signing is that the Chargers seem to love injured players.

He did not play well last season and angered the locker room but with little else out there and no great tackles in the draft it looks like they had to overpay

Not a terrible signing, hope he can stay healthy.
                    Now, go get a guard!

Chargers signed LT Russell Okung, formerly of the Broncos, to a four-year, $53 million contract with $25 million guaranteed.
Okung was a relative disappointment in his one year with Denver but that didn't stop the Chargers from emptying the safe. On a per-year basis, this makes Okung the richest tackle in football. The Giants and Panthers were also in on Okung before he planted his flag in L.A.. Now that Okung is on board, the Chargers are almost certain to move on from King Dunlap, who was recently arrested for a domestic disturbance.

When ever a player is signed on the first day or three of free agency you over paid for him... This is like Drew Rosenhaus's law or something...
