I don't think Hortiz is done yet. I look at the TE depth and think that can't stand. Stone Smartt as the sole depth piece? Hayden Hurst has an extensive injury history.
My prediction is they bring in a veteran TE and I think they will waive either Fehoko or Rice (or IR Chark???), and go with 4 TE.

Matlock never played FB in nfl too.
I say they at least ponder it (seeing Harbaugh's penchant for thinking outside the box)

I wanna say something. I clap it up for Brendan Rice. I said it on the draft we got a great pick.
look at my post.
And he’s proved me right. I think he was the best receiver in training camp and preseason as a rookie.
he will contribute great on special teams. And I think on the field as a receiver.
made some really good athletic catches. And athletic plays. Great work ethic.
you could see some of those stick throws were air mailed against Dallas. Kudos to the scouting department to seeing how he was running his routes how he was getting open. And you gotta think with Justin Herbert those are catches.
Well he earned it.
he had one drop but that’s football.

Good planning isnt HOPE, that your starter never gets injured. Ours is great but he is increasingly battling injuries the past few seasons.
Nobody buys insurance from a company that promises "if you have a loss, we will pay you nothing and you will suffer immensely". I could accept someone deciding Stick is good enough more than I can accept this attitude that QB2 doesn't need to be able to play quarterback, he just needs to be QB1's room buddy and be congenially liked in the locker room for ... idunno, his personality?
Herbie has no trouble finding friends on the team. What he needs is a QB2 that play well enough that Herbie doesn't feel obligated to limp out onto the field for the team with a bloody dangling appendage because he knows the team will for sure lose if he's not out there. He played a whole season with cracked ribs because of this fact already once.“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”
