Dont think we waived Egboigbe...pretty sure he is on the 53, by all reports I see
Yes I know. My post referred to who we could have waived in order to keep Tremon Morris Brash who scored high in his PFF rankings. Egbogbe scored meh (very low). Thank you.
Would have kept Tremon Morris Brash! #57. 2nd highest defensive grade according to PFF in pre (right behind Tony Jefferson)! Sheesh.
DT:
Waived Egboigbe (so what if he was a pick). I thought THE BEST made were supposed to make it?
Plus, with Egboigbe possibly on the protected PS along side Hinton, Clark, you can always choose one of those 3 guys to bring up. SMH
RB:
One less RB would have worked for him too because we would still have the top 3 on the team and DD as a #4 emergency. Vidal or Patterson (likely Patterson) on the protected PS would have worked! Frank Gore Jr, and MANY #4 RB's (dime a dozen) could be picked up anytime. SMHx2
WR:
Heck Brenden Rice for TMB! (Rice on Protected PS. ONE catch outta 12 in pre?!) Coulda put him on PS along with C Johnston, Jalen Gill and you still have 3 to choose from as WR#7. SMHx3
You only have ONE Tremon Morris Brash type of talent. Hope he makes our Protected PS at least. Sheesh X 2!
I grade Hortiz a B+ for these cuts. (A by keeping Brash)
Yes they said that but they are also going on potential. They think Egboige has good potential and you don't just cut those guys. Not every rookie has reached their potential right away but when they catch on, they will flourish.
Likely what they see from practice.
I'm guessing they kept 7 WRs because they see Davis more as a few plays here and there at WR like the reverse, and other types like WR screens and runs and he really won't be out there much as a receiver.
But just a guess on my part.
That it maybe Chark is quite ready with an injury.
Brash had one good game against bubble guys.
1. Mason Taylor TE LSU
2. Quinshon Judkins RB Ohio st
3. Kyle Kennard Edge So. Carolina ✓ 4. CJ West DT Indiana
5. Don'te Thornton WR Tennessee
6. Zah Frazier CB UTSA
6. Jarquez Hunter RB Auburn
6. Jay Higgins LB Iowa
6. Hunter Wohler S Wisconsin
7. Carson Vinson OT Alabama
Decisions like this PROVE that the coaches not only SEE something, but have evidence of upside.
Wasn't Smartt a QB in college? I can totally see how he'd need some time to develop into a competent NFL player at an entirely different position. If he's doing that?!? Good on him!

I agree.... and he has been getting open and "if" a QB can actually throw the ball accurately (Chargers only have one QB who can).... I have seen Smartt make some amazing catches..... and amazing effort....
I like Parham, but he has never played much because as soon as he has been hit a time or 2 he goes to bench hurt.... he rarely plays.....gets a TD or 2 in red zone, when he is healthy and does play, but is not a chain mover.
First...I shouldnt have said ridiculous...that was dickish...
But to the arguement...how many of those surprising backups are there really? They are a rarity...a lucky break for some teams...and to me, bottom priority in building a roster. But I admit, its my personal philosophy...if Herbert goes down for the count, the season is over. I would rather have a guy who, while a great supporter in practice, film room, and sideline...tends to suck on the field...assuring us of a better draft and schedule next year, to facilitate a good bounce back year...I dont think it is imperitive to squander resources to get some midlevel hack who wins just enough to make us...well...mid.
However...I DO like the idea of drafting, developing...and also looking outside the box, like we tried with Perez, to find a gem...cuz it doesnt hurt to improve the position, frugally...I just dont want to spend multiple millions and/or draft picks in a trade, to upgrade the position.
as recently as 2017 the eagles own a Super Bowl with their backup QB and nobody is going to accuse the Eagles of having had a Super Bowl caliber backup, but the thing is he had a nice blend of experience and at the time his arm was still adequate...I'd have to go back and see what the Eagles were paying him to know if it was some giant bag of cash but somehow I doubt it...Stick just doesn't have that type of upside IMO, can you see Stick coming on late to finish a playoff run and help the advance in the4 playoffs, I mean based on what we've seen? Yes nobody can replace Herbert but that doesn't mean you give up trying to improve the position...unless if you feel that nobody out there could possibly be an upgrade over Easton?

I don't want to trade draft picks for one, but I'd counter the false choice posed. It's not either have a super-backup that can win a SB vs Stick. There's middle ground that should be explored. Get a better backup than Stick. Doesn't have to be Steve Young sitting behind Joe.

agree, and the experts say Rice has lit it up in practice whenever Herbert has been throwing the ball...... Stick cannot throw a consistently accurate ball...period.... We need to add a number 2 QB who can actually throw accurately and get of stick once and for all.....

Agree!.... and realistically Stick is worst backup I can think of..... someone might be able to find a worse QB but Most backups in NFL, even 3rd stringers are much much better than Stick..... Stick has fewer INT's that he should have because he runs so often and throws so inaccurately no one can catch the damn ball.... lol

I saw several people predict Eboigbe's potential cut, to me he played better against the cowboys, I think he had like 4-5 pressures from the inside agains the Cowboys...it doesn't mean that they might not still make a move with him just because he's on the 53 man roster but he was a 4rth rounder, I just have a feeling that he'll get one season to get his shit together, next year if things are status quo then all bets are off, this is not TT at GM anymore...
