hearing Hortiz talk he will perpetually be in roster improvement mode, I love that he brought that Baltimore approach!

I didn't feel any sting. Its interesting academics for us to haggle over the last couple guys on the roster but cmon gang - we're talking bottom 4 or 5 or so out of 53. nobody that was cut was going to play on Sundays. they wouldn't even be active on game days. those "stingers" will be on our practice squad and ready to be called up if need ever arises.

Injuries are a reality in the NFL. By game 4 there will have been some shuffling. Our bye week is after game 4 and I expect Hortiz to treat that week like off season. Making moves

Somehow Herbert moved on once he was let go...Herbert doesn't need these scrubs, he needs a back up that he can trust in a pinch to win a game or two if he has to miss a bit of time...
First...I shouldnt have said ridiculous...that was dickish...

But to the arguement...how many of those surprising backups are there really? They are a rarity...a lucky break for some teams...and to me, bottom priority in building a roster. But I admit, its my personal philosophy...if Herbert goes down for the count, the season is over. I would rather have a guy who, while a great supporter in practice, film room, and sideline...tends to suck on the field...assuring us of a better draft and schedule next year, to facilitate a good bounce back year...I dont think it is imperitive to squander resources to get some midlevel hack who wins just enough to make us...well...mid.

However...I DO like the idea of drafting, developing...and also looking outside the box, like we tried with Perez, to find a gem...cuz it doesnt hurt to improve the position, frugally...I just dont want to spend multiple millions and/or draft picks in a trade, to upgrade the position.

I don't want to trade draft picks for one, but I'd counter the false choice posed. Its not either have a super-backup that can win a SB vs Stick. There's middle ground that should be explored. Get a better backup than Stick. Doesn't have to be Steve Young sitting behind Joe.

PJ Walker was released by Seattle. That guy showed a strong arm with accuracy against us this preseason. He has good legs too. Sounds good enough to me.

What positions do you think they are not done with, that they may sign a player and cut a player currently on the roster? My guesses would be QB and TE. I wouldn't rule out WR or RB as well.
