A Look at #5 and #11 Overall in NFL Draft in Last 10 Years

Since there's a lot of talk of trading down, let's take a look at the players picked at #5 and #11 overall in the last 10 years. Anyone see any busts or semi busts? Or were they mostly solid to elite players? Could the drafting teams have gotten better value by trading down? (Some did trade down) Or did they do well to stay at #5? How much of a dropoff in talent do you see between #5 and #11, if any?

    #5 Overall:
2023 - Devon Witherspoon, DB, Seahawks (from Denver)
2022 - Kayvon Thibodeaux, LB, Giants
    2021 - Ja'Marr Chase, WR, Bengals
2020 - Tua Taglovalioa, QB, Dolphins
2019 - Devin White, LB, Buccaneers
2018 - Bradley Chubb, LB, Broncos
2017 - Corey Davis, WR, Titans (from Rams)
2016 - Jalen Ramsey, DB, Jaguars
2015 - Brandon Scherff, OG, Redskins
2014 - Khalil Mack, LB, Raiders

    #11 Overall:
2023 - Peter Skoronski, OT, Titans
2022 - Chris Olave, WR, Saints (from Washington)
2021 - Justin Fields, QB, Bears (from Giants)
2020 - Mekhi Becton, OT, Jets
2019 - Jonah Williams, OT, Bengals
2018 - Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Dolphins
2017 - Marshon Lattimore, DB, Saints
2016 - Vernon Hargreaves, DB, Bucs (from Bears)

        We can't go wrong.
Unless we pass on MH2 and he ends up commanding and beating double coverage for 15 years somewhere else.

One of the things Harbaugh excels at is taking average to slightly above average players and coaching them up to play well as a TEAM...If we can trade down and fill 3-4 holes on our team with above average players drafted in rounds 1-2 and a few more who are at least slightly above average in rounds 3-4, then fill out the rest of the roster with serviceable players in rounds 5-7, I think we're on the right track...

We can fill the 3-4 holes on the team even without the trade down thing.

You have a chance at Marvin Harrison Jr, Nabers, Bowers, and Odunze. We'll miss out on these guys. Unless the team with Harbaugh does bad enough or stinks again, we're not going to be picking in a good spot in the draft like we are now again.

I'll say one thing--if we draft any of those guys, it will stretch the field...safeties HAVE to respect the speed and drop back, and that will help our ground game...

I think you only get 1 more player in a trade down with Vikings. Neither of the two theoretically is as good as #5.

But I’m still for the trade if available.

This year, it could be ...

                    5- M. Harrison
                    or
                    11- B. Murphy
                    23- T. Fautanu
                    2nd next year

think you've got to ask for one of their 2025 third round comp picks on top of the two first rounders this year....
