And while I'm firmly in the "upgrade RT" camp, I want to give credit (or perspective) where due, and say that Pip is no Storm Norton (who was horrible-- utterly outmatched on most snaps.).
I think we've known for a while that Pipkins is *not* the answer at RT, but I guess the cap hit on cutting him, outright, would be too prohibitive.
So I'll be especially curious to see if Salyer, McFadden, or anyone else can step up high enough to make Pip a game day inactive.
The new coaching staff will have their own ideas about which players are best suited for which spots. It's not impossible that this year's starting Center could be Zion or Salyer, for example.

I figured that Khalil would be open to a trade, ensuring that he could play on a contender, but the fact that he was willing to restructure his contact means he *wants* to stay. This probably says a whole lot about Mack's opinion of Jim Harbaugh.

Can we trade him with a June 1st designation for the trade? Thought I saw something about that but its too much for my brain to read lol
I don't think that saves us anything though. Think it has to be a cut to get the 22 mil."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. Draft guys that can do the job all by themselves... especially if their job is to protect the franchise QB.
Especially if those guys can help you run block AND pass block. That's why these OT's are going in the early/mid first round.
We have no swing tackle on the roster. If we draft an OT in the first and we have one. His name is Trey Pipkins.
I don't mind paying Pipkins $8.75m next year. I'd like an experienced swing tackle over Norton... or Tevi... or Sarrell...
If people are going to obsess over $8.75m... then cut him after 2024. It's a $6.75m savings... which is what you'd be paying a rookie OT.
They say Roman and Devlin are the IOL whisperers... let them whisper in the ears of Zion, Salyer, and McFadden. They're all young.
Trey has had 5 years of below-average to mediocre performances. He's hardly the guy to protect the franchise QB or help you run better.OLineCentric
