I have a so so idea of what he'll do with the money, he's going to extend his guys first and then they'll see how much money they have left over to play with...

Mack will get extended on a mid tier short term deal

Molden will get extended

Fulton might get extended

Dobbins will get extended

Perryman might get extended

Ford will get extended

Tart will get extended

Bosa might get restructured on manageable team friendly deal

AND he's going to tender the restricted free agents, Smart, Sarrell, and Fisk

it remains to be seen how much that'll cost so by the time free agency hits, the chargers might have a lot less left to spend than the 100mil numbers people keep throwing around...I'd say in the 40 to 50 mil range going into free agency knowing that about 22mil of that will be spoken for draft and in-season budget needs...so by the time all that gets factored in the Chargers will have enough to bring in one or two IOL and maybe another veteran TE...

I know people want a lot of big flashy FA signings but that's not good long term when you have to let young talented guys walk because you spent your cap on high priced free agents, I'm still not happy that Nwosu and Henry are not still wearing the lightning bolts, both players have been misses and neither would've broken the bank but powers that be had spent money on guys like Bulaga, Joseph, and Harris...players that were basically overpaid at the tail end of their careers, it was idiotic and basically not planning for the future...

you've got a guess. i'll give you that. I see one that is certain in your list = Slater. The rest, who knows. what do they think they should get vs what does he want to spend? who else wants to offer them money? What if Ford and Tart both think they are now worth $10M?

Losing Henry was definitely a blow. I also didn't like when they let Tranquil and Van Noy walk when they could have been had for little money. Hopefully, Hortiz doesn't make that mistake with guys like Ford and Tart who we are lucky to have

That's the way to go: target a few people over the years.

KC targets Mitchell Schwartz / Joe Thuney / Honey bear / Justin Reid .... all these guys are 2nd contract guys who were top tier players (& still a bit undervalued).
Other than the OTs they pick up through free agency, very patient disciplined approach.

Compare that to Telesco: Okung, Pouncey, Linsley, .... 3rd contract guys on the downside who were formerly top tier (so a bargain to TT).
(Linsley, and maybe even Okung, were still top tier - but old)

Bargains: Chris Harris Jr., Brandon Flowers, Thomas Davis, .... on their last legs or flat out done.

Even in TT's golden moment (Casey Hayward), Hayward was 27 years old when he first played for San Diego.

Hayward was great with us and really about the only real solid FA he signed. Well Linslay was great but then the heart thing happened which we didn't see coming.

Boseman is on a 1 yr deal for ~ $1.5M so that tells you they don't view him as the long term answer at C. Maybe he resigns to be a backup.

Pipkins is getting $9M which they surely know is ridiculous for his avg play at best. They see he frees up $6.7M in cap space for a much better replacement so a major restructure to be depth at best or could see him released outright- another TT bust reject pick.

Zion Johnson will make $4.7M next year which they must also be cringing about so could see him getting the boot too as again there are much better players for that kind of $.

They can't be happy w the results on the field either so could see 3 new starters next year and Johnson and Pipkins possible cuts or at best restructures.

Ex In FA, RG Will Hernandez $4.5M replaces Pipkins ( $6.7M) and LG Dalton Risener $2.5M replaces Johnson ( $4.5M). Many good Cs for ~ $2-3M.

At least 2 new FA IOL and then grab some BPA in the top or mid rounds and we will be in great shape.

Risner hasnt been good. Denver let him walk and his run blocking is worse than Zion, Pipkins and Bozeman.
His pass blocking is ok but we would just be sacrificing one for the other.

I do agree with what I think Wu may have been implying - they won't run out and buy the most expensive IOL players on the market - they will shop for lower price value pieces to build the overall team. Thats possible. I'm still for fuck it - lets blow this IOL problem to bits and see what a team with a complete elite OL from end to end can do. But i'm gonna watch and see and trust in their plan.

Agree...first of all, need to keep Herbie healthy...aside from that, an elite O line will give Herbie a LOT more time for routes, especially long routes, to develop...AND improve our ground game...I would again say, sign a solid FA C and G, double dip for the same in the draft, draft a top shelf TE in round 1, get RB and WR in draft, and sign FA's also...but absolutely we need to shore up our O-line...with a solid O line, we can even get by with an average RB and WR, though I think we should be able to sign some decent talent there...

outside of Linsley and Hayward, I don't recall any good FA signings, that center from Pittsburgh can remember his name he was okay but was also pretty much done, Linsley was fantastic while he lasted and the heart thing shouldn't take away from how good he was while he played for us...

yes, but I think Van Noy was a culture thing in the locker room, I don't think he got along with some of the guys on the team, they used to call him "grumpy old man" he played defense for Staley so maybe he had cause to be a bit grumpy, LOL!

That was Mike Pouncey and we got the brother from Miami, not Pittsburgh ( Marquise). He was about done as he had degenerating hips to some degree.
