There's no salary cap in baseball and if you release a player you are still paying him no matter how.many years are left.

Id tell my kid to be a BB player. Mediocre guys get pretty good money. Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla and he hasnt played since 2002 because of deferred money he had in his contract.
