(In the meantime, I'll STILL call him Trader Joe...)
BIG trades. Impactful trades. More-frequent-than-the-usual-GM-makes trades. That is what it would take. He'd have to stand out for actually... trading.

At present? His trading doesn't stand out. At all. It's pedestrian. Not nickname worthy. (Unless you-- you know-- have a 'nickname fetish') Hortiz' declining to trade (down from #5) has been FAR more impactful on the building of this team, and you blow completely past that, and on to a tangential point. You, sir, are Hacksaw!

If Joe's impact/freq. of trades doesn't stand out from OTHER general managers-- and it DOESN'T-- how does that qualify as meriting a trait-based ("Trader!!!") nickname like the one you absolutely INSIST that he wear?!? It DOESN'T! Unless you're Hacksaw, of course, in which case... it's just what you do, "I'm Lee 'Hacksaw' Hamilton, and I demand that you pay attention to ME, whether I make sense or not! You're not listening?!? I'LL YELL LOUDER!!! La Mesa! Reaction!" You, sir, are Hacksaw!

YOUR defense is, "Well, he made a couple of puny trades, so it's not dishonest to call him 'Trader'." Not dishonest in the technical sense, sure. But by *that* standard, YOU should be calling 85% of NFL GMs 'Trader Bob' or 'Trader Carl' or 'Trader Tom' because, hey! They made a trade! It's a prototypical Hacksaw-like bending of perspective to fit a completely oblique narrative. You sir, are Hacksaw!

Dude, you are *SO* Hacksaw! Except without the paycheck, and products to sell! lol Hopefully you have better hair! And eyesight!

And OF COURSE you'll continue to call him by the ill-fitting moniker you're pleading for everyone to embrace. It's what Hacksaw-- and Cliff Claven-- would do!

"Straight into the iceberg, Cap'n!!!! Full speed ahead!" lolol

It's about 13-14 or 15 out of the 53 2023's players who will not be at training camp ?
How many dollars he saved with that ?
If you are not sold on that, call him The Cleaning Man !
Hortiz released Mike W. outright with no compensation involved. I'll credit him for the cap management angle, but what more is there?

I credit him more for the cap management angle of trading Keenan to the Bears, than for the Day 3 pick it brought the Chargers. A 4th rounder. This is not trading brilliance.

Hortiz has come in and established a new foundation. But trades have been one of the smaller parts of that. Hanging on to picks has been a more important part.

still think the best FA addition is gonna be IOL Connor Williams, and think he comes on board for two years @$6m/year....

also thinkin' I'm waiting a year for IDL and going back 2 back in the draft w/NT Kenneth Grant & DT Howard Cross II.... (ED RJ Oben wouldn't be bad in the third neither)

Los Angeles Chargers named top landing spot for star wide receiver (msn.com)
At first I disagreed because I felt that there is no way we could afford him but he is a great young physical WR who can make accobatic catches, routine catches, blazing speed, and he is a great blocker as a WR who sprung McCafree on long TD runs..... with Herbert as his QB he could be top 5 +/- WR....

maybe the trade is for Palmer and a mid round pick or 2 and we sign him for cheap this year with lots of guaranteed money....with salary increasing neaxt year and beyond after KA and MW money ends?

I would love this add, but if we have money and picks, adding a shut down CB would elevate our defense above middle immeditely with our pass rush....

but lets see what Chargers do.... this is not like before when TT said our team is perfect and we dont need anything else....lol

don't think we have too much to worry about w/our receiving corps.... two 1k+ yard receivers + a bona fide slot receiver in McConkey.... Herbo has more than enough to work with.

think we can revisit things for the if and when we are minus Palmer 'n Chark come next offseason 2025.... ??

i kind of agree.... i think our WR core is greatly undervalued..... but any injuries change things....

If QJ learns and elevates himself to the top WR he waas projected to be last year, with Ladd and Palmer we willl be good to go!

Ayuk would be an expensive upgrade..... but its up to Harbaugh and Ortiz......

                      Don't agree. It's pure management.
In NFL, a 3rd round pick who give you 11 years a good service is priceless.
If you can have a 4th for him the next year, go for it !
                      And save 20 M !!!!!

Beathard in 1999 traded a 2000 5th to Baltimore for Jim Harbaugh. To become a conditional 4th if Jim plays 50% of snaps and we win 9 or more games.

Jim threw over 50% but we went 8-8.
Bobby Beathard (SDC GM 1990-2000) was a wheeler dealer and took us to our only SB. Even if some of his trades were pretty whacky. Not all though, he was fearless.
