Gus had them in a soft zone outside technique playing 8+ yards off the LOS and TB to Edelman etc peppered them up and down the field with 5 yard slants and crosses, followed by another 3-6 YAC - and scored 5 TDs in a row before Gus finally had a DB come up and press a receiver at the line. I don’t even know how to coach and I wouldn’t wait to see 5 fucking TDs that did the exact same thing every time. Lo and behold, when he brought up press cover, suddenly NE couldn’t do the same anymore and only scored one more time in the 2nd half. (They were partly content to just run and bleed clock but it was still much better)
NE players even laughed about it after the game, their coaches had timed the Joey-to-QB rush time and it was 2.2-2.4sec, so they designed the game plan for TB to get it out on quick crosses and outs in 2.0 sec.
The way to get TB rattled was ALWAYS to get pressure from the inside. Almost every bad game he had, thats where he was pressured and pocket collapsed into his lap. You are 100% spot on the bullseye that a Chris Jones is a key plus factor for any defense and goddamn it - we should get one, thats how you get to Mahomes too. I’ve called for one for a decade! Enough of these late round projects, if I read another glowing projection for Scott Matlock, i swear I’ll puke. Those guys are occasional sub relief so the real Jones can catch his breath, you cannot win with a DL of Scott Matlocks.
Back to Gus. I’ll never forget that game, its seared in my soul. that was the single worst DC performance I’ve ever seen and I watched every Staley game.
Is it that game where the Chargers had NO LBs ?
They played 4-0-7 all the game.

Sounds like the 1st half of the KC game last year . . . . . . . . . . . Same exact thing - only Staley stubbornly stayed in his zone all half . . . . . . . . . . moral to the story; if the fans can see the problem and the coaches can't - time for new coaches . . . . . . . .
Watch the rest of his highlights in that game, then. Tell me where he actually abused Kool-Aid and Arnold.
He abused Malachi Moore. He had one good play against Terrion Arnold. Pretty much nothing against Kool-Aid. Did the rest of his work against Caleb Downs, another safety.
Yes, my question then?
Why the hell wouldn’t Saban go away from his normal scheme? One of the big two corners should’ve been on him the whole time you would think???

agree.... and he would say he even blized but it did not work???.....lol.... like he did not know if you leave all his receivers wide open, his pass will be completed quickly and nagate the pass rush...
any good coach knows if you blitz you have to go aggressive press man!...to give your blitzers a couple of seconds to get to the QB......chargers coahes have revused to do that for years... even marty was that conservative.....
agree... because we had an all pro center who could not play anymore for health reasons, and was replaced by horrible depth that TT selected.... and Herbert got hurt because of relentless pressure up the middle.... frequent jail breaks..... where pass rush is coming in almost as quickly as the snap.... Ive played every position on a football team for long enough to realize how tough each position is.... and jailbreaks are not fun!...lol
I used to call those Look out blocks, the lineman turns his head and yells Look out!
He would be a nice later pick as well..just don't think OC is a high pick now. Second rounder used elsewhere.
Jenkins possibly or Cooper unless we trade with Minnesota and get 11 & 23 and they use 23 on Cooper. Not sure Cooper makes it to 37 now.
I have seen him in the 6th round but some are saying 4th or 5th. I can’t see him going any earlier than 4th round but who knows. Sure some team will fall in love with him.
RB: toss up but Gus fits the part better. Unlikely to equal Ekeler's production.
TE: Everett slightly better than Hurst, Dissly a good pass blocking g addition.
LB: Perryman cancels out Kendrick's. Murray better than Dye
Center: Bozeman better than Clapp I would hope
CB: No, not yet
WR: huge no, not yet.
DL: meh

IKR, we're already 1.5 months into this rebuild cap hell fuckfest that TT left us with and these worthless new hire assholes haven't righted the roster yet, WTF, I say fire the fuggers!

Yes - and I was screaming at my TV the first series due to PSD flashbacks!

Couldn't tell you. Maybe he was more worried about Brian Thomas, Jr. LSU certainly did a great job of setting up matchups that favored Nabers tremendously--and not just in the Alabama game. I don't see that happening in the NFL.
If we go receiver, and Harrison isn't there, I hope it's Odunze.
