Could be true, but could definitely see this going either way. Last weeks rotation probably played into the thinking.

I don't expect Meachum to get cut till after game 1 so the Bolts don't have to guarantee the replacement player's salary.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Meachump took a concussion tonight. Enough to IR him and/or arrange some kind of injury settlement??

Cuts are easy this year, finding guys to keep is the problem.

I don't think the Chargers should pay him any extra above the $5 million they owe him, if that's what you had in mind.

my question is when will teams start cutting players? tomorrow? I know rosters have to be down to 53 by saturday afternoon but when will the actual cuts/waiver claims occur?

After that mess, I'm surprised that the Bolts didn't rush their cuts into the league office.

                    Cutting as we speak.

No, surely not! In fact, I was hoping that his concussion would make him want to give some of that money back.

Obviously, I know nothing about how "injury settlements" are settled. I didn't realize it involved paying the guy MORE for not playing at all.

I don't know how the injury settlements work either, but there is a cap of how many total players you can have on payroll at anytime. Sometimes a player is put on IR for injuries that aren't really season ending, so to allow the team to clear his spot on the payroll, they will payout a portion of the salary, maybe in a lump sum, and allows the player to see if he can catch onto another roster. In Meachem's case, he might want the lump sum payment instead of getting paid out over 16 weeks. In any case, he doesn't deserve a spot on the game day roster, is totally useless as a practice player, and there are others out there that would have some growth potential. They don't need another WR, but there are other spots that can be shored up.

my perception was injury settlements are always LESS than what was owed, and paid out to end the relationship between player and team when it becomes obvious the player's likelyhood of suiting up and playing is uncertain due to injury and they both want to move on. I don't know the legaleze behind it, but in Layman's terms they agree to void the existing contract and end their obligations to each other for an agreed $ amount.
