But Geoff Swaim is on the 1-7 Cardinals. He is a solid blocker at TE. Now maybe the Cardinals want to keep him but for a pick swap of 7th and 6th rounders - or just a straight 7th - he would be better at blocking than McKtty. He could possibly improve both the run game and pass protection. Chargers play enough close games where a possession here or there is the difference

But I also said it during the offseason - if you are going in, you need better at OL, TE, and maybe other positions. You just don't push all but 3 chips in and continue to play poker - just push them in
The worst thing they can do today is nothing. Either make a couple smaller trades, like say a cheap blocking TE just to see if you can improve the run game
OR
Sell players: Williams got a 2nd; Sweat got a 2nd - my guess, Bosa and Mack can probably get you some good draft capital
The Chargers are right in that area where they will figure out how to win 7 or 8 game s- not good enough for the playoffs and not bad enough for a top 10 pick
Staley and TT are hoping that ownership will see 7 or 8 wins as (some kind of) progress, and rationalize this as a way to keep them on . . . . . . . . . . .and it just may work with the Spanos, who only want cover to keep from spending more $$$'s.

Plus, via the JCJackson trade, they did technically increase this years cap - so they have the money. Granted, it sure seems like they are going to just roll that over so that dollars they saved this year just wash out what was added to 2024
That is Spanii math right there!!

When the Chargers lose players they find scrubs off practice squads.
