No, it’s not consistent. Context matters. We traded for Mack and we weren’t trying to bring White back because we still had Tranquil. So completely different circumstance.

While White and Tranquill both had deficiencies, they also had solid seasons before being let go. As a result, the Chargers now have two inside linebackers who almost certainly are playing their last season for the team. Kendricks' cap number is a very reasonable $4M this season, but it escalates to $9.25M next season, of which only $2.75M is guaranteed. There's no way they'll keep him at that number. And Murray is playing his fourth season. Unless he miraculously develops in a way he hasn't yet, I can't see the Chargers extending him or picking up his fifth-season option. And that would leave the Chargers in the position of having to find two new starters for next season.

That said, this NFL.com analyst thinks the Chargers should pick up Murray's option:

White and Tranquill, however solid they were, each had exploitable holes in their games.

I can still hear Steve barking at us about Kyzir's deficiencies in coverage-and Kyzir was a former Safety.

Drue, also a former Safety, was contrastingly not "dog enough" in run defense.

Whatever the correct storyline is about a possible contract offer to Tranquill, in Kendricks, we did emerge with a player who makes our defense more complete IMHO.

We should trust our HC and his judgement calls about the nuances of exactly what ingredients are needed for our defense and our culture.

Minshew is way better than Stick and he signed for 3.5. Rush 2.5. just want someone to give us a better chance. Seen nothing from Stick to provide that.
Maybe 2024 we can afford a better backup.

I don’t believe Tyler’s report for a variety of reasons including the fact that the Chargers actually spent decent money on a LB this FA, which coincidentally occurred after reports of Tranquil and the FO being far apart in their negotiations when FA began.

Combine Daniels and Sticks salaries and use that money to get a real backup QB, and bring in a UDFA developmental QB as the 3rd guy (practice squad). Problem solved. IF Herbert goes down for an extended period we ARE screwed, but at least get a guy in here who might be able to win a few games and keep the ship afloat if Justin has to miss a handful of games.

They lost several guys and he’s getting paid much better than he was with the Eagles.
