Would be cool to see Herbert on the sideline looking at the iPad and talking with Lombo. Or scheming with someone. He just does the same three plays, we punt, and he stands on the sideline watching the other team run over us.

Not really. The tendencies are the same week to week. Run, run, target pass short or intermediate on 3rd down. Hard to say if some of the longer throws aren't just Herbert taking a chance on a receiver like the ones to DeAndre Carter.

This is intentional.
Brandon Staley told us all that they have played many close games, it's the NFL, and he is comfortable in that space.
They are wounded team. They need to try to shorten the game to win right now with the lack of talent at skill positions.
