Salyer may not be an elite LT in the pros...but he was elite in the SEC...thats saying something...worth a shot to see what he can do, and maybe get some push in the run game...as well as get him some seasoning.
Salyer at LT is simply the best choice. It leaves the rest of the starting OL at their positions & gives the talented young rookie a shot.
There are a variety of moves could be made but the one-shot plug & play makes a lot of sense.

Dig this. He’ll play Sunday…but next week be held outta a days practice again. WTH is this?
Mr Automatic takes a boat load of reps. A few more throws vs feeling good doesn't make any sense. to me. He had accuracy & timing problems due to injury last week.
If he's throwing inc's and picks all over v Hou you were right.
      ...But I doubt it.

Yeah true, but different coaching staff.

Cully 2021 was an Andy Reid Disciple. Staley stinks against Andy Reid disciples (lost to Harbaugh, Culley and oh Last week...Pederson).

Lovie Smith - Can Staley out coach him?

Nah…he probably got ultrasound for pain. He wasn’t his usual self on some throws. Pain? No. Lack of practice reps.

I was expecting them to stick with Storm, come hell or high water.
            A bit surprised.

The broad chest, bulbous thighs and long arms sound like a nice starting point for a move inside, but Salyer is high-cut and lacking functional bend, which makes his projection more difficult. No matter the position, range and leverage are going to be a concern in the running game. The athletic limitations could lead to erratic results depending upon the matchup, but he is qualified and capable of doing battle against power-based defenders. His pass sets can be clunky and disjointed, but he is fairly confident in pass protection and his best position could be right tackle. He offers roster flexibility but he has the ceiling of a below-average starter or quality backup.
              • Might not have leverage needed as run-blocking guard.
              • Athletic rushers find access to his edges.

is Salyer better off @R or LT ?? or will he be a guard in the NFL ?? or could he eventually pan out as an OC ??

is Pips better @R or LT ??

is Zion better @L or RG ?? (he is not an OC)

and not sure where Salyer's run blocking storyline is coming from, as his pass sets are much better than any run blocking to date.

I’m not sure where the “high cut” comment comes from either. You see the butt and legs on that guy?

Right now I'll take 5 healthy guys who are willing to at least attempt to block the oncoming defensive players. Salyer looks like he's a guy Who wants to get in someone's way. Storm is a nebulous as a cloud and he gets easily confused by stunts. Not sure it's entirely his fault or his mental processing is inadequate.

Have you seen my sig? Preaching to the choir:biggrin:

The floor is a liability, like storm....anything else from viable to good is better, and you both see what you have in the rookie, as well as season him a bit. Makes too much sense...

And another thing...this shows Staley growing...putting aside status quo and hurt vet feelings to shake things up....regardless of the results, an encouraging sign...

Lazy eval....part of the season he played a little heavy...but his weight is well under control now...that and his tweener tag, being a little on the short side, is probably why he fell...but he has good reach, and had a solid camp. Cant be any worse than Storm, excited for him to get some reps, for the future, if nothing else.

Can we flip Pip to LT & put Salyer at RT? I'd feel a little better with that than a raw rookie protecting Herbie's blindside ribs. Either is better than Storm, however.
