Yep, The Patriots traded for Welker after his 3rd year because Billichick said they "couldn't cover him".
Very rare to trade in division but Miami probably thought they scored being offered a 2nd round pick, which since it was in division why they offered it.

Miami screwed themselves though as Welker kicked their butts for years after.

Welker had a great pre-season and we all wanted him. I think Marty wanted him too but there was this thing called money - Tim was making a big salary for that time.

I don’t disagree with that, merely pointing out that it took him several years to blossom.
