      Agreed.
I'm not as interested in 3rd down D as I am scoring D. Games are decided on the score board.

I see an anomaly in LAC, Den & KC being bottom 10 3rd dn D while Den was #3, KC #8 scoring defenses. LV #26, LAC #30.
The Chargers should be a top 10 scoring D. I expect better actually.

My eye is on 4th quarter D
with so many key veterans, I expect poised/disciplined play.
          No more Kelce walkoff TDs

To a point. But most scoring drives you still need to drive the length of the field, so if the 3rd down D is good, it will cut a lot of drives short and get the ball back for the offense. The field is still 100 yards long.

I agree that ultimately scoring D is the main point, but all things being equal, 3rd down D is big step towards being that good D that doesn't allow a lot of points.

Happened when James was off the field. Why we brought in so many DBs, too much suckage back there without Derwin.

No but I was there and saw it live.
                    still having flashbacks haha
To bluemans point, James was out.
But with JC Jackson back there I feel confident if James had to miss a drive or 2.
James was out most of that game, so I was anxious about that and Parham's injury too.
Can't imagine the mental toughness it takes our guys to see that and have to go out and execute.

                      Avg drive starts @ 28.4. 31.6 to a FG, 71.6 to TD.
Getting D stops, forced punts or takeaways is key.
Those goals can be met with a mediocre to poor 3rd dn D. Witness Den & KC scoring D results.
I agree that 3rd dn D can be a useful component.

Can we please let the discussion about the secondary, third down D, or anything related to the defense be carried on in the threads appropriate for those things?

The WR group has potential. Maybe Deandre Carter gets in on the passing game too if he makes the roster.

Maybe but we got some other guys who are maybe better WRs. He is only here as a return man. I still think Reed can beat him out.
