He has been clear that his defence is designed to stop explosive pass plays and play lighter in the box againt the run. He is all about DBs.

And when it has been gashed and the run defence is at historically bad levels he sill stubbornly sticks to his system instead of fixing it. Whether it is in game, as eveidence by 3rd quarters, or game to game Staley has to be the worst coach out there at making adjustments.

And getting killed is not over the top whatsoever. From early this season they gave up a 50 yard run every game. The rush ave against this defence is the worst in the NFL since the 1970 merger. Think about that.

It is pathetic, no other way to look at it.
    :what:
It’s pathetic because Bosa, Johnson, Ogbonnia, and Covington are out with injuries.

All their replacements are No better than practice squad fodder.

The interior DL was upgraded and both Bosa and Mack are known for being able to set the edge for run defense.

You are absolutely full of shit saying, “Staley philosophy is not stopping the run”. With all due respects.

The problem was John Spanos would not bring in quality replacements and waived the white flag.

Another point about Staley's system. Good LBs are not a priority to him and it shows, the run tackling at the second level is brutal.

I agree with you about looking ahead to the draft and such. As much as the defence needs fixing, I think you start by properly equipping the best thing by a mile that this franchise has going for it, Justin Herbert, and put together a scary offence.

Do you think the Tua conversation would even exist this year if Tua wasnt equipped this year with McDaniel and Hill/Waddle? How about getting Herbert a good OC and some speed and YAC, maybe a real top level TE.

I bet you could score you way to more wins while you improve the defence.
Who says LB’s aren’t a priority? That’s projection. Did you ever think they expected more from 1st rounder K9? They also got Van Noy.

I do like your suggestion about a good OC, more speed at WR, and especially a franchise TE.

The linebacker narrative is off base IMV.

It has been repeated as though it is fact.

Who wears the Green Dot, but Drue Tranquill.

What led to the notion here is that pedestrian Ram linebackers were effective and efficient.

They got good looks because of Strong EDGE on both sides and Donald/Gaines/Bash up front. Overall Scheme mastery was also a factor.
        Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

The last LB we drafted was a 6th rounder. Murray was a 1st rounder that has not worked out. Van Noy is over his prime and we let Nwosu walk and he's
tearing it up with the Seahawks. Our leading tacklers have been our safeties. That's not a good recipe for defensive success. At any rate we have much
bigger problems on the offensive side of things.

Again, where was this vaunted defense at the beginning of the season, before all of the injuries? But I do agree with you about the lousy quality of most of our backups.

Do you mean the 19 points vs the Raiders (24.3 ppg)... without JC Jackson...?
Or the Chiefs 20 points (30 ppg)... without Keenan...?

Bosa got hurt early in Game 3.
Bosa and Mack had combined for 5.5 sacks in the first 2 games...

I see your point, we won 1 game out of 3. For the Chargers, that's a victory. Holding teams to less than their average yards are victories, too, I guess. Wins are better, but my glass should be half-full, not half empty. I forgot that Bosa was hurt in game 3, time for the D to pack it in after that. Can't expect a defensive guru to compensate for the loss of one player. Low expectations for this team seem to be the acceptable norm.

29th in defence last year also...with Bosa

2 years is not an anomaly...and its not just bad this year, it is historically bad ...as in worst run defence in 50 years....I get that above all injuries have derailed this season but I just expected better adjustments and figuring stuff out froma coach hired as a defensive specialist. You might be ok with watching this defence...i am not..i find that watching every single RB we play steam rolling this defence...watch them try to make tackles..has become embarassing...a bit of a laughing stock around the league

BTW i am not suggesting Staley would not like to stop the run better...i am saying it his philosophy is to limit big pass plays forst and foremost and his defence is designed around that...but that is not working so well either. When your run defence is this bad, you are also keeping your best player on the sidleines far too much and making it harder for him to get into rhythym

You cannot convince me this coaching team is getting the most out of Justin Herberts tools and unlimited potential, or that there is not more experienced and qualified coaches that could
