Chiefs fans, former players and even spouses are in uproar over what they deem a dirty low blow by Joey Bosa on Patrick Mahomes.

On a play in the first quarter, and as Bosa was in the act of launching towards Mahomes, before the pass was thrown, Chiefs ORT Andrew Wylie clearly grabbed Bosa's jersey. This caused Bosa to hit Mahomes lower than intended.

Wylie was flagged for holding. Mahomes walked with a slight limp for a while. What is not widely known is that the Roughing the Passer rules were tweaked before the start of the 2022 season. As such, Bosa was not flagged for Roughing the Passer here, precisely because the low hit was caused by a blocker.

Of course Chiefs Kingdom has no shame. They, like everyone around here, consider Danna's hit to be "good clean football." Never mind the resulting injury. Never mind the rule book. And they are in uproar over the Bosa hit, which resulted in a penalty on their player. No Joey Bosa is not a dirty player. However, former Chief Daniel Sorensen, whose nickname is literally "Dirty Dan" did once take a roundhouse swing at Charger Danny Woodhead during a play.

    Bias in action.
Maybe we do play modern football.

Jeez wood, I had no idea.
      thanks for the leg work.
This game is now more zebra stripped than the infamous, Denver Hochuli debacle.

Our eyes tell us Danna's play was acceptable.

The big problem is the inconsistency in rule interpretation by officials.

It is just weird how recent Charger QBs, Rivers + Herbert, do not get calls.

I distinctly remember Bosa getting flagged for a hit in the allowed target area.
Maybe we do play modern football.

Thank you 21. You will be about the only one to bother to read the posts. NFL Operations Rule Book Videos shows a similar play by Aaron Donald vs 49ers, which is used to illustrate what constitutes Roughing the Passer.

              which incriminates Michael Danna.

" [Rushers] ...may make direct contact only through the rusher's first step after...release;...thereafter the rusher...must not continue to 'drive through' or otherwise forcibly contact the passer." Danna actually took three steps after release of the pass and before contact. I just watched the play again, frame by frame.

"When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g. during or just after throwing a pass), the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player's arms..." Danna initiated contact with his shoulder, and throughout the tackle, which applied FORCE to Herbert's ribs when coming down on Danna's helmet. Most of Danna's body weight was applied via his shoulder.

It is not exculpatory that Herbert landing on Danna's helmet was unintentional. Indeed, Danna's actions caused all this to happen. There is responsibility here for what happened on the defender. Malice is a non issue. Special NFL rules apply.
              Good research Wood.

I was not aware Danna took three steps after the release of the ball. It looks like the Refs missed a call there.

In real time it would not seem so.

Now, I am gonna take this a step further.

The Chiefs were mad about Bosa's hit on Mahomes in the first quarter, and had no qualms about launching on Herbert in the 4th.

I read it and it's great info. Too bad the refs didn't read it as they continue to suck.

It’s something that has been a tough sell for all our qb. Remember when Rivers got a helmet to helmet hit and pointed it out to the ref, like did you see that… nope.

Rushers are not supposed to be allowed to tee off in any sense on QBs anymore.

Yes, the Danna hit looks like a bang bang play.

I wonder if our locker room sees it that way.
would make for an interesting re match on 11/20
