There is an NFL wide move toward positionless defenders, not just LAC.

Early in the season White was playing snaps at box safety and slot safety but we went away from that. I don't know why. I vaguely recall something about him being much better in MOFC vs MOFO coverages when doing this. Or the other way around.

THey didn't play ANY LB for most of the game. They played a 4-0-7 package (quarters personnel).

And while they did have injuries at LB, it was in an effort to get faster, better players on the field to matchup out quick the Ravens offense . Just because a LB is bigger, doesn't necessarily mean they are better run defenders than a S is.

Staley's D lets the S line up fairly deep, and gives them the chance to run to the ball. Even if the OL can get past the 2 gapping DL (the 4i guys), it's hard for most OL to hit a fast moving S who is coming up to make the tackle. THey aren't athletic enough to hitting a fast, athletic player in space.

Our D last year was all about our DL not holding their ground and not keeping anyone clean, on top of leaving gapping holes for the RB to run through. SJD and Johnson are both the kind of players who can play 2, 2i or 4i positions, and two gap keeping the LB and S clean so they can run to the ball.

Linebacker corp needs help. Too complicated for me. The way defenses are being drawn up now. Keep two…get lucky.

2-gap DL players will make Murray shine. He played his best vs LVR 2020 when he attacked downhill into the gaps.

I'd like to see some 5-1 fronts that look like this... Rumph ^ Bosa ^ SJD ^ Tillery ^ Mack ... with designed stunts. That would be a mess to pass block.
Staley likes to bring pressure with four, he does this by overloading a side and with stunts instead of blitzing.

or do you prefer the near 100 percent of the snaps for an Olineman ??

and on a personal note, the fewer LBs we can get away with the better, @least as our roster stands now....
The D front requires depth and room for situation specialists. We don't want Edge and IDL players playing every snap. We will not play the same D front every snap, unlike OL.
The 53 man roster will include 10 DBs, 4 ILB, 5 DL, 6 OLB/ Edge - approx. There's room for juggling ( no less than 9 DB) and I don't believe it will be finalized until the cut to 53.
The final 5 OL will be expected to play 100% of O snaps if possible. Unit performance depends a lot on familiarity with each other.

STill haven't replaced Fackrell on the roster. So that could come from draft

Chargers do have 10 picks left but 6 are from picks 195 to the end of the draft with pick 262. Have to just hope 1 maybe 2 hit

So I think the Chargers will need to be players in the veteran free agent market post draft to fill in the gaps the draft doesn't bring. As you cannot rely on 6th and 7th rounders - maybe special teams like Niemann and Amen O - but not much more than that.

Maybe we do play modern football.

LAC will watch the race between Pipkins and Jaimes.

                        Who develops faster ?

Feiler would like to know which position he will play.

                        Slater-Feiler-Linsley-Schofield-Pipkins

Prediction...no implication that I am thrilled.

Late free agency will yield something, hopefully not another Bulaga.

Mock analysis in a few days.

As of right now, Pipkins and Jaimes have developed slowly.
                          Too risky for my blood.
I thought you'd be content after the Senior Bowl showings.
