2022 Official Chargers Season Discussion

question for me is, are we playing an odd or even front ??

are Bosa & Mack EDs, w/SJD the nose, and Austin Johnson a DT ??

does that leave a spot open for someone like Devonte Wyatt ??

and obviously they could go Davis if he is still on the board, or they might even think Travis Jones is the better get ??

and for LB and anyone else that is thinkin' along those lines.... Zion is not a tweener.

the SB officials and scouts decided they'd like to see him @the OC and his team needed him to play tackle, and.... dude is a guard, plain and simple, and a good one.

ps. does that leave any space for someone like Travon Walker in the Dline equation as well ??

I am quietly rooting for Wyatt. I think he would be a really good fit as a 3-4 (in basic terms) end.

We play nickle+ most of the time. Even front is 4-2. Odd front is most commonly 5-1 with 3 IDL, 2 edge, 1 LB.

yeahp.... am that far along, and.... which one do we play predominately, and would that allow enough snaps to justify drafting Wyatt ??

or do you prefer the near 100 percent of the snaps for an Olineman ??

and on a personal note, the fewer LBs we can get away with the better, @least as our roster stands now....

I think we ran more 5-1, maybe just from a roster standpoint. IDL played more snaps than LB last year. D might look different this year.

I’m a bit overwhelmed (have been for years) regarding the number of linebackers used in today’s more sophisticated defenses. Of all team positions, the one I seem to be continually unfamiliar with is our linebacker corps. Sometimes I think the Chargers must have 10 of them. So many rotational situations where some player whose name I hardly know is put in on this play or that. One of these drafts, I’d like to see a linebacker drafted again at #1 who turns out to be something. That doesn’t happen around the league often, it seems. I think TT went after one…still waiting on him….didn’t exactly pan out, did it? Hell, Kizer White was possibly coming into form…gone. Wondering if this team has a linebacker corp identity or, if it’s too complex for me to grab onto. Heh…in Staley we trust. And…seems drafting a LB at #1 doesn’t happen as much as in the past.

He's among my favorites. Teams can't double Bosa & Mack with him on the field.

I think Bosa is the closest comp we have to Aaron Donald.
I think we'll be in a 4-2-5 most of the time (60%)?
I'd like to see some 5-1 fronts that look like this... Rumph ^ Bosa ^ SJD ^ Tillery ^ Mack ... with designed stunts. That would be a mess to pass block.

Toss them in among the mix. See who stands out consistently. Hard to tell these days with so many situational substitutions at LB on any given down. To me, it’s almost dizzyening. “Wait, who is that LB who just came in for that one play.? Name unfamiliar. One of many in Staley’s LB stable. Barely a chance as to who stands out. Heh…too complicated for this fan. In Staley I trust. What other choice?
