Think we're all aware that Kenny needed to make this solo tackle, and something that is within the skillset of a 1st Round LBer. Kenny blew it, of course. It's the talent lacking in Staley's scheme as well.
on the flip side, Put Ekeler in this situation and he is getting that TD.

Players like Joey and JC make the field smaller.
Defensive linemen must have anchor, diagnose, and lateral mobiĺity.
K9/Nasir have developed at a snails pace, with a realistic goal of becoming consistently adequate at best.
Concepts that have worked not just @ LAR, but also @ CHI and DEN, can succeed @ LAC too.
In 2022, even without the vital Joey, we were OK except for gash plays, and that would have been standard successful StaleyD concepts.
Decimation at DT, with AJ/Covington/Tito injuries, worsened our predicament.
Of course Staley understands cycles of football, need for constant adjustments.
Transition from gusD personnel and player development remain factors.
Defenses commonly go from very bad to pretty good, once all is settled.
Then management typically gets fed up with scoring offense, and changes out entire staffs.Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

They had a chance to replenish the DT losses with quality free agents like the Eagles did with Joseph and Suh and THEY DIDN’T.
Injuries are common, frequent, and to be expected in the NFL. It’s not an EXCUSE. A competent owner makes sure he has a GM that has quality backups or goes out and gets them when needed.
Instead, we suffer the same fate every year and use the injury excuse to explain failure. Year after year after year. It’s always the same.

Whether it is scheme or players, I blame Staley. For almost 2 years now this run defense has been horrific. He blames in on gap control, crack replace, contain, setting the edge, injuries, etc. But bottom line he has had all kinds of time to fix the run defense. He is supposed to be a genius who assesses players and highlights their talent If this is true, find a way to highlight the talent of the guys he has and stop the run. A good coach gets this fixed, regardless of the root cause. Chargers will go nowhere until its fixed.
