RT D.J. Fluker practiced at guard some in spring. Today, saw 1st reps of camp. Pretty standard. Each Chargers OL learning multiple positions
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Rivers on Stevie Johnson: "He's off to a heck of a start. If you asked me one guy who I was most excited about, I'd probably single out him"

Agree. In one MM's lighter moments he said Coach D makes everyone take reps at center and that he, McCoy is afraid to walk too close to where the OL is practicing for fear he will be told to snap the ball a few times.

Observations from the seventh practice of Chargers training camp:

D.J. Fluker, filling in for Johnnie Troutman, spent the practice at right guard, and the game looked a little fast for the long-time tackle.

He had some success on run plays, such as when he sealed off Kendall Reyes. In pass rush, Reyes beat him on consecutive half-line drills, knocking him to the ground once.

Blockers say it's a faster game at guard than tackle. There are more reads, more calls to relay, and the fight starts sooner. Fluker's footwork was less precise, his posture less sustained, than at tackle. But the 6-foot-5, 342-pounder went hard. He used his long arms and big hands to create run space.

Second-year running back Branden Oliver bounced off defenders. In the most rugged drill of camp to date, he both dealt and weathered hard hits near the goal-line.

Pass of the day was a Philip Rivers dart into a tiny window, near the end zone's back line. Reserve tight end Kyle Miller caught it for a score. The Chargers obtained Miller, 27, off waivers from the Falcons in May.

As he did to help beat the Bills in Week 3 last year, when he twice bounced outside and around cornerback Stephon Gilmore, running back Donald Brown broke cornerback Lowell Rose's containment. Brown looks fit.

Melvin Ingram gave pointers to rookie Denzel Perryman. The next play, Perryman made a tackle for loss.

Newcomer Jimmy Wilson had perhaps his best practice defending the pass.

Center Chris Watt looked quicker in his comeback from a balky knee. The speed allowed him to reach and seal off a linebacker, Chi Chi Ariguzo.

A day after disclocating a finger, Antonio Gates was mostly a spectator in drills. Gates has looked fit running routes.

The practice was exclusive to Chargers season ticket-holders. As the players worked out, Chargers owner Dean Spanos and club stadium lobbyist Mark Fabiani chatted on a deck overlooking the fields.

Fluker beat by Reyes? Twice? How embarrassing. I'm starting to think Fluker is going to be a flop. I don't even know if he makes the starting 5 anymore.
