Chargers @ Seahawks Pre-Season Game Discussion

I was a little disappointed in the game. Mostly, when I watch preseason games, I like to see guys go out and play fundamentally sound. Don't make a lot of mistakes. And play hard. I didn't see that much of that vs Seattle.

ON D, we missed a lot of tackles. There was the usual backup players over pursuing and not doing a good job in their run fits. I hate that, but it is pretty much par for the course. It happens. The Chargers did well enough to shut out the Seahawks if they could have gotten the Seahawks ball carriers down. Play after play, a Chargers tacklers got there, and actually did a good job of running to the ball and couldn't then couldn't get the Seattle guys down. Mostly it was just everyone standing around not wrapping up.

There were a number of defensive penalties if the Chargers had wrapped up, then I don't think the penalty occurs either.

On offense, the OL just let the Seattle front 7 in and stopped the RB for a loss a lot, and couldn't stop anyone in pass protection. The blockers seemed fine 1 on 1, but they were NOT working as a group. I know it is the backups, who don't work together as a unit, but it is still disappointing.

With all that, if the D had done a better job of not giving up so many extra (free) yards, and had done a better job of getting 2-3 yards on 1st and 2nd down runs, then the Chargers are likely in the game. But that is why teams get blown out.

Seattle didn't look that great, they played with more energy and finished plays better, and that was why they won.

I'm not fond of Campbell's play. He does look big and athletic though.
