selective memory at work. I don't know ANYBODY that thought we were Super Bowl contenders for the last 2 seasons of NOrv Turner. I knew exactly what we were getting each of those seasons and wrote them off, no matter how many players we exchanged we still had a proven failure as a Head Coach and would have a fail season.

Selective memory indeed: anybody thinks this team ain't ready to compete for a title needs to rewatch the Seattle game - we were mostly healthy, they were mostly healthy, and we dominated on both sides of the ball. Scoreboard don't lie, all we need is good health.

I looked back at the way the 1st-2nd rounds played out. Here were our options (based on who was drafted in each round):

1) If we drafted OT/OLB, we could have taken:

One of these two:
- Cedric Ogbuehl, OT, Texas A&M (taken by the Bengals with #21)
- DJ Humphries, OT, Florida (taken by the Cardinals with #24)

And:
- Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska (taken by the Cowboys #60)

Or...

2) If we drafted OLB/OT, we could have taken:

One of these two:
- Bud Dupree, OLB, Kentucky (taken by the Steelers with #22)
- Shaq Thompson, OLB, Washington (taken by the Panthers with #25)

And one of these three:
- Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon (taken by the Bengals with #53)
- Rob Haverstein, OT, Wisconsin (taken by the Rams with #57)
- Ty Sambrailo, OT, Colorado St (taken by the Broncos with #59)

Plus we would have been able to keep our 4th-round pick.

Sounds like you would have been much happier with the Bengals draft.

I'd agree with this. I don't see them as "super bowl contenders...right off the bat. But playoff contenders? certainly.

And if you can get in the playoffs, and be healthy... who knows? Got to let the games play out. Forecasting is best left to the Vegas guys.

Exactly. There have been some pretty average teams winning the super bowl lately. Both Giants teams, the Ravens, the Steelers with Jerome Bettis. They were not great teams that just got hot at the end of the season.

No, I don't/didn't. It was a question for OIP, to gauge his response to a couple of alternate scenarios. I don't know exactly how OIP feels about signing guys with 'issues', so I figured it was a fair question to ask HIM. Now, if he had posed that question to me, I simply would have chosen one of the combos I posted in the 'Or...' list.
