No need for fancy analytics, just start win the one-on-one battles and everything else works better after that. Hell, the only thing that Staley "contributed" to the team was going for it on 4th down. A trick he tried far too often, and with limited success.
Too much emphasis on this forum about winning the one on one battles.
Well, that would be great ....... all pros are the players you require to do that consistently.
Why then would you need a D coordinator?

Like any team sport, most players need help to succeed, and need to be asked to do things which they are capable of executing.

Bill Russell, when asked about how he would guard Wilt Chamberlain, said that it is a team game .....
if it was a purely one on one match up, Russell would have had little success.

its my theory. If he comes back to NFL, he’s not the king of football program, he’s not even in charge. He stays at UM, he is. He’ll make just as much at UM so its not money. Maybe if he’d already won a couple Natl Championships, he’d want the challenge again - he hasn’t done it yet though.

Saban doesn’t want to come back to NFL either.

      Meyer might be available

Quit in midseason with a winning record because he no longer liked the atmosphere in Detroit.

Bobby Ross came in saying that he was a nuts and bolts type guy, focusing on the little things: meaning the simple basics.

I don't think that is Staley in the least.
That was Marty too - sound fundamental football, fuck up less than the other guy and win more than not.

That is where Staley needs to improve. He needs to hire salty grizzled position coaches to do that bread and butter shit like drilling Tranq to lead with the correct shoulder to seal a gap.

He's a persistent little monkey about all this.

And sources close to Payton, say he has not ruled out a possible return to New Orleans.

Doubtful that Payton would even be considered. Based on their management style, the Spanos' are not the disagreeable types, and prefer to avoid confrontation and/or friction which they undoubtedly will have with Sean Payton. All the talk about fostering a family dynamic within the organization is all for Johnny Boy to feel and maintain comfort in his role.

A lot of people in this thread have some crow to eat. I said 2 weeks ago Staley has been coaching his ass off. Now tonight missing 6 starters he held one of the best offenses in football to about 100 yards for an entire frigging game. It'll go un-noticed in the bigger scheme of things but this is right up there with Belichik shutting down the Rams & Bills in superbowls.

This game is an example of what we were expecting from Staley when he was hired. We have been hoping this season this type of performance and execution would show up. Some of us have, anyway. Let's hope the team has turned a corner, and we get performances like this every week for the remainder.
