We've been horrible on short yardage situations. Most of of 3rd and 4th and shorts have gone for no yardage or a loss. IT would have handed to ball back to KC and they would only have had to get a 1st down or so to kick the winning FG.
4th and 1 in OT

1. there was 7:58 left in OT at that point, which means that KC will have probably have one non-hurried possession left. if the game ends in a tie, it is a victory for chargers and an embarrassment for KC.
2. even if we were using a 50 yard FG as the maximum distance for reasonable FG, then KC would not even need a first down if we blow the 4th down play.
3. we had a rookie QB making his first start. i would rather see them try a fake punt, than run a play.
Punt the ball. I would not mind if Lynn was gone tomorrow, but you punt the ball.

We weren't going to convert trying the same boring runs that we got stuffed on when we were on the 3. If that's all you can call, then punt. I don't think that was all we had in the playbook. Options were gaining yards. Play action was working and would have worked especially well on 4th and 1. Spread them out and see how they line up.
Lynn called a play that would likely earn any team a loss, at best a tie, against KC. He didn't play to win.

So for the "go for it crowd", what would you have run?
Again, we have only made 1 short yardage run in 2 games, and the RG was moving early on that play and it didn't get called. We are a very bad short yardage team.
