This is often an overlooked position in football and it is terribly important that we get it right. Usually they are the holders for kicks as well... so gotta have good hands. We got that with Jones last year but his punting left a lot to be desired.... hopefully one of the Tylers is a diamond in the rough.

Overall... looks like a lot of intriguing UDFAs... The Chargers seem to always have one that makes the team... I wonder who it will be this year?
    It's often more than one.

finally got around to looking @draft grades and who each team drafted on the whole, and.... think the Chargers are pretty much in the second tier of teams.

surprised in that it appears that Eric DeCosta got off on the wrong foot, and would be wary of both the Cowboys and Bears drafts ??

thought the Pats, Az, Jags and Titans came out on top of things, and that Wash DC and Oakland weren't far behind those four.

others in that second tier that did alright were teams such as the Bills, Jets, Cincy, Denver, KC, Giants, Atlanta and the Rams ??

it does seem that the Chargers got two players that many experts hailed as excellent fits for our defense.

am not sold on our mid rounders, but will give Egbule a shot @things as a contributor, and think Broughton makes space for himself in the rotation @3T (similar to Rochelle @DE)

Well, they need to be football players first and foremost (and TT stresses that and film above all), but I think the Kyle Emmanuel (great person, football player, limited athletically) days are over. I m good with it.

I get this sense too. The last two drafts have been filled with athletic players with legit upside. I think this is possible because the roster is already pretty robust. Our D got even faster and we added two key DTs into the mix. OL still seems like the question mark... we still didn't get a blue-chip OT prospect. Pipkins is a dev project that could pay dividends... but more likely he will end up as a backup. A lot still riding on Lamp actually earning his paycheck. He has been the biggest disappointment over the last two drafts. I thought he would be a stud. Also, I have been a proponent in the past of always selecting at least one CB in nearly every draft. Hayward took a giant step back last year, King emerged as a stud slot CB and Williams/Davis did OK. We are pretty thin after those guys. Hoping that an improved push along the interior of the DL leads to less time for our CBs to cover. In the end, health killed us last season... particularly at LB. We added two intriguing guys in the draft along with Davis. If we get some luck on the health side then I think the D could be elite. This is our window.... the Bolts need to make the most of it.

hard to question the first two picks, as agree w/Davis and those two our D should be better.

not sure we needed another coverage LB and think that Tranquill was a Combine riser, so afraid he got drafted just as much for his athleticism and school as he did for his football.

re: the OL.... if we had traded down w/NY we coulda had an Olineman there (@37), not to mention in place of Tillery, albeit obviously we thought better of that.

a trade down would of also facilitated drafting a CB like Amani Oruwariye, albeit again we did get Kemon "the Demon" Hall as an UDFA, and not so sure calling Brandon Facyson "thin" is correct, as he's pretty darn talented, and thinkin' his only quandry is if he can stay healthy.... he's a baller, and in the slot and outside if I recall correctly.

and back 2 LB.... if and when Denzel goes down, not a fan of Tranquill as my run stopping LB, and not sure Davis is ideally suited for that either.... Coney woulda been helpful there.

How do we know NY wanted to trade or what the offer was?

Tranquill did have 2 ACLs, one on each knee, in the course of 12 months. He had an incredible recovery time and has been healthy, minus a few minor dings, played at a high level for 3 straight seasons, being a 2 time captain, while going through position change. He isn't a downhill thumper but is still physical while being a quick twitch, gap shooter, block slipper, pursuit dawg, with solid coverage skills.

have no idea.... straight conjecture, and.... they did trade back into the first, so think that's enough for some (rampant) conjecture.... @least from where I sit

They did and they traded that #37 pick to do so. They may have called us and we said no. Telsco did say he had Tillery as his lone first round grade when our pick came up
We just don't know that and they didn't give up the 37 plus 3 other picks either. So you just can't say we could have or should have done that because maybe they didn't want to.
Obviously their targets were different than yours or mine.

once again, show me where I said we coulda or shoulda done that ??

it's what I woulda done if I coulda, and.... I liked getting three of their picks as opposed to your preference of a third rounder.... pure conjecture, nothing else.

you don't like it.... so be it.

I'd like to see us make more of an effort to stockpile picks, and yeah not getting Tillery might be seen as a loss, and.... sure woulda been nice to have the three extra guys and still get a lineman.... even if it was on the other side of the ball.

                      This insinuates it:

I'm not arguing. Just saying they may have called us and we said no.
And i agree about stockpiling picks or, trading players for them but as I've said before, TT just don't seem.to be that creative.

But id still rather have the higher pick than lower round picks.

don't see where you get the could or should.... all coulda, woulda, shoulda were contingent on IF we had traded down.... never did I say that.... only that I woulda liked to have considered/done that.

to repeat/be clear.... it says "we coulda had an Olineman," not we coulda/shoulda traded down w/NY for their #37 and three other picks.... you will not find that in any of my posts.... again, only conjecture on my part.... (if and only if

I thought I had read somewhere that TT said they had discussed trading down from our first round pick but never had any serious offers.
