Emek Egbule, ILB, Houston, 6-2, 245

Emek Ugbule (uh-mek-EE egg-boo-lay) grew into a force on defense for the Cougars. The All-District tight end from Galena Park, Texas, played in all 14 games on special teams as a true freshman (11 tackles, one for loss). He stepped in to start 5 of 13 games as a sophomore (22 tackles) and then had the job full-time in 2017, making 62 tackles, 6.5 for loss, two sacks, and six pass breakups. Egbule started all 13 games his senior campaign, filling the stat sheet with 69 tackles, 5.5 for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, five pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
    Overview
Explosive outside linebacker prospect with exciting upside who is loose and twitchy but lacking in skill and consistent aggression. Egbule's juice up the rush arc should excite GMs and defensive coordinators even if the rush skill hasn't been honed. His fluidity to drop in coverage and harass passing lanes is equally enticing. He's a Day 3 developmental prospect offering scheme diverse traits and talents, but he has to prove he can adapt to the physical nature of the sport as a tackler and at the point of attack.
    Strengths
    • Long arms on well-proportioned, athletic frame
    • Has hybrid drop-backer/rush-backer athleticism and traits
    • Reactive twitch is top-notch
    • Threatens the edge with big get-off burst to rush passer
    • Loose hips with explosive inside charge on tackle-end twists
    • Can go punch to sudden shed instantly
    • Legitimate coverage talent
    • Drops fluidly into space in zone
    • Length and short-area quickness constrict passing lanes
    • Finished 2018 with seven passes defensed
    Weaknesses
    • Gifted athlete but still very raw
    • Pass rush needs go-to moves and counters
    • Hasn't learn to grease the edge with hand work
    • Will need to play much tougher as a pro
    • Instincts for the game are basic
    • Takes poor angles to the football in pursuit
    • Tackles back-side of the hip causing a plethora of misses
    • Will lose contain despite having position
    • Takes additional time to diagnose

Egbule...at 245 lbs has some nice beef on him to tackle tough RB's...and he can cover, so fits the LB/safety hybrid mold which is a plus...looks a bit raw, but not a bad pick...need depth at LB...probably PS, but we'll see...

We sfill werent a bad team over all. King still starts. You vsn always find tough players in the draft. That's why kids get the name "gems" also didnt we lose like 4 or 5 games off of missed fiekd goals that year?

Position flexible, athletic prospect who can earn snaps at OTTO and ST.

Only pick I don't like is the QB. We know he won't play for a while if ever, but all the other guys like Tranquill won't start but could work his way into taking over for Phillips who is on a one year deal. He would get plenty of playing time in 2020.

Pipkin could be better than Tevi in 2020 and be Okungs replacement in 2021.

Even on the DL we aren't going to get a starter this year in round 5. Depth who could work into a starting player when Mebane is gone for example. Hey if we get lucky on a guy late or as UDFAs, great but we don't know who that is right now. MOST players drafted this late won't make their teams.

So ok, you can throw out a name here and there who made it but there are far more who wont in these rounds

4th-7th rounds are always used for depth. Right now, our biggest depth issue is at LEO. If Ingram goes down, D'andre Walker/Jordan Brailford would have become an instant starter. If HH goes down, Isaac Nauta/Dax Raymond would have become instant starters. If MG3 goes down, Rodney Anderson would have become the starter.

The only way Easton Stick moves into a backup role is if the Chargers plan to move on from Rivers after this year and AL gets his wish to run a "dual threat" offense...

Egbule needs toughness. And LBs without toughness don't have a place in the NFL.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

my point about telesco spitting in rivers face is we have what 3 maybe 4 years left with rivers and were drafting players who if they do improve will be improved once rivers is gone. I just feel bad rivers gave us his whole. Hof career and it doesnt seem like we're trying to build to win now. But after hes gone.
