Agree with AG, we need football players, period.

As to WR, we so need a deep threat, if just to clear out the underneath stuff. Imagine our end-of-year O with DX or even Floyd (as opposed to Brown) running opposite Allen, Royal in the slot and Gates doing his thing. That would be effing potent.

DX is a complete freak at WR and pretty much as complete as they come when healthy. Obviously he would crush. Floyd runs excellent intermediate routes and is a clear upgrade to Brown who really didn't do a damn thing well last year except run block. He's not a real threat to take those short passes the distance though, but still clearly an upgrade to Brown.

Saying we just need football players is nice and all, but not all "football" players are great on every team. Certain players fit certain schemes better than others. Yes coaches adjust schemes to players, but some traits are essential - like being able to get open in the time frame Rivers is releasing the ball.

What about Floyd? He was fitting in just fine until he got hurt and he was never known for his short and intermediate route running. McCoy can adjust to whatever he has as he has proven year after year. This fit thing continues to be a myth no matter how much you try to push otherwise.

Floyd is an excellent intermediate route runner? Which team are you a fan of again? He is about as one dimensional as it gets. Very rarely do you see him make easy catches because he has trouble separating. He made up for it with his catch radius and hands.

All two games? He had one good game vs the Eagles terrible pass defense and had 1 catch vs the texans. He's a clear upgrade over Brown, but let's not get carried away here. He's just a solid #2. Which is just fine, but let's not make him into some HOF receiver. He used his body well more than anything and was great going up for the ball. He's not the type of guy that can take it the distance every time he touches the ball. A guy like Cooks would bring that dimension and give the offense a whole new dynamic. Again, we are a high % passing offense that controls tempo. You throw it to guys like him often enough he's gonna break one.

              17.3 career ypc.

No shit he has trouble separating, that's why he's not a great short route runner. He ran the intermediate and long routes. He made his money on 15-25 yard catches.

                Take it away, Brandin …

“I’m a playmaker,” he said at the combine. “I’m able to create plays from nothing — catch a 3-yard ball, I’ll take it the distance. … Speed kills and I feel like that’s what I’m going to bring to the game.”

A 40 in the 4.3s and a combine-record time of 10.72 in the 60-yard shuttle offers some evidence that Cooks is correct.

Anything 15 yards and beyond is considered deep on a route tree.

We're getting away from the point. McCoy can adapt to any kind of WR. Simple as that.

With that said, I'd prefer someone with vertical speed, just to compliment Allen.

Shazier is a guy I like, but would be interested to see how a Telesco would envision him fitting in.

We need athletes that can play some ball.

But I wouldn't consider it going deep. A 15 yard route is intermediate

Point is Floyd is a completely different receiver than Allen and both fit just fine in this supposed "system" of ours.
