Love reading those scouting reports from multiple scouts. They sound like us in here.

One scout loves a guy, the next says he is inconsistent lol. One guy is a possible bottom first rounder, the next says the same player is a great pick in round 3 😅

It's comical and if a team picks said player early then it's somehow a reach.

Why? Because if Murphy *is* 'all that", he would singularly help the Bolts more than any other player in this draft. IMO, of course.
no matter how good a defense is, you cant beat Reid and Mahomes unless you can drive down and outscore them when it counts at end of halves or end of game.

Chiefs won 2 consecutive SB's because they were unstoppable on offense when it really counted.....and they rather easily beat the best most talented defenses in the NFL with no great WR's..... they did it with a great QB, great TE and a brilliant coach..... It would take years for chargers to aquire enough defensive talent to be in a category to be just good enough to lose.....

plus with the QB cost, there is not enough money to build a great defense or to have elite WR's...... This is why a generational TE like Bowers would have the greatest impact on Herbert and this teams offense and defense.... Bowers would be our best receiver and clutch playmaker getting us first downs to keep the running game going.... and to make us a great threat to score TD's in red zone..... long scoring drives will help our defense stay rested and weaken the opponent....

You may be right. Or not! We'll see if Hortiz and Harbaugh agree with you, in less than a week.

There are legit justifications for going any of several directions with the pick at #5. I don't believe there's only ONE *right* way to approach getting the talent involved in winning. To me, trading down and acquiring additional Day 2 picks would allow the Chargers to fill more holes-- competently, solidly-- immediately. IMO, guys like Cooper DeJean, Braden Fiske, Edgerrin Cooper and Johnny Newton would ALL be huge, instant upgrades, and they all fall into the "Late 1st-to-mid-2nd round" cluster. But you'll only get ONE of them, unless you trade down and get more draft capital.

I agree with what you are saying.

There is of course the old saying that "defense wins championships" and of course we need a much improved defense. That is easy given the bottom defense we have had the past few years. If you gave Herbert even an average defense there would have been more wins.

But as much as defense is important, in todays NFL, particularly in the AFC, you need a potent offense to keep up and compete against teams like the Chiefs. There are simply too many stud QBs in the AFC with good offenses that are going to put up points against any defenses. Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers, Tua and the Miami track team, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, CJ Stroud, Parick Mahomes, Trevor Lawrence with more on the way like Richardson and Levis.

You need an offense that can score points with anybody to really compete in the AFC.

It appears “they” (or AB?) just throw a bunch of stuff out there to see what sticks. Some are accurate and some are way off. E.g. they said that the Bears were keeping Fields and trading the #1 pick. Also said that the Chiefs had signed JK Dobbins. So, I guess they’re definitely generating views.

Thursday couldn’t come faster - anyone got a Time Machine I could borrow? I ran out of whiskey.

One thing we all - trenchers, playmaker-wanters, trade downers - all seem to have come around to, is this:

Trust in JH2. As one poster put it, to paraphrase, getting Harbaugh and Horitz is the pinnacle, everything after that is merely what flavor of frosting one kinda likes most. And to be fair, thank you TT/Staley (and Lynn too) for leaving this team such a mess, only way to go is up.

Whatever happens this draft, the team will be sooooooo much better. Almost want to start the 2024 Draft Zen thread lol. To quote Kevin Bacon, “All is well!”

Exactly, as I have said most of us wanted Hortiz/Harbaugh got to give them a chance. I mean this is what we asked for.

                          Let me ask you trenchers.

Is Puni the best guy for us for a team that wants to run the ball? If we play him at RT, he is a good pass protector but not as good a run blocker. And at RG do we want a inside guy who isn't a strong run blocker?

I like his potential but weak run blocking has been our problem so can't get past that. What does Thorn say about his run blocking at the next level?

I like that Frazier was a wrestler. Helps with hand placement.
